"You don't want the truth, you can't handle the truth!"
ROTFLMAO Here's the truth: Sgt. Todd Oliver, a spokesman for the 173rd Airborne Brigade, which counts the 503rd as one of its units, said he was told a soldier wrote the letter, but he didn't know who. He said the brigade's public affairs unit was not involved. "When he asked other soldiers in his unit to sign it, they did," Oliver explained in an e-mail response to a GNS inquiry. "Someone, somewhere along the way, took it upon themselves to mail it to the various editors of newspapers across the country." No conspiracy, no lies in what has been writen in the letters. NOT ONE PERSON has been able to show a single lie in what was writen in the letters. Here's some more truth: (quote from the globe and mail, editoralizing) "The sentiments seemed genuine until identical letters" Where have we heard something similar to that??? Sgt. Gueser! "It makes it looklike you cheated on a test, and everybody got the same grade," Good call Sgt. as I said on page one "piss'n moun'n"
Jesus John D, you're tying yourself in knots on this. They purported the letter to have been written by individual soldiers from the home town of the newspapers that they sent it to. It's one big deceit. Simple as that. Just try to give me one straight answer. Why did they not give the name of the true author?

For the average soldier to write a letter of this proportion would take a bit of his down time. I understand the BC wrote it, and had it passed out for all to sign, if they agreed with it. He wanted the real world to understand what was going on his his part of the dirt. Good article, and truthful, but I feel was done a little out of character. It was then passed on to the States and sent for release under the Armed Forces Hometown News Release Program. Battalion Commander to a civilian = He is the ground commander of a Airborne Infantry Battalion, is responsible for over 800 men. That includes, training, health, welfare, and safety. He is college educated, with at least a Master's at this grade, has been to many military schools, and has on average 17 years in the military. Felix

Lying by omission is a big gray area. On one hand, you're not saying an untrue word. On the other, you could be misleading someone intentionally. Some say being misled is the questioners fault for not asking the right questions and drawing conclusions. Some say when you answer a question, you are morally and ethically bound to convey the full meaning of the truth to your best ability. I used to think that lying by omission was OK. I have since changed my mind and decided that the only two moral ways to answer something are with the full truth to the best of your ability, or to remain silent on the issue. You do not have the obligation to answer a question, just the obligation to answer it truthfully if you decide to.
