Batter is the fountain in New City at the Temple. Just say the magic word to Rulae, as soon as you get to New City. You don't have to learn it the hard way in order to use it...

Sacrament is the word, which will allow you to the free fast recovery fountain, as well as the Legend map (which is the only map you need to possess to finish the game), if you get there right after the beginner dungeon.

When I first played Wiz7 some years ago I found a fountain, not in New City, where I could just stay there and do something, can't remember what, that would make monsters re-spawn for loads of XP. Then just used the fountain and waited for monsters to re-spawn again.

At that time I only got as far as that place where you are offered one of four goodies, I picked the sword. So it would have either been in that place or before then. So many years ago since I first played it.

Anyway, restarted couple of months ago, after finding the Ultimate Wizardy Archives in a car boot sale, and am still in the starter dungeon. Wiz8 and KOTOR have been grabbing my attention lately (trying to get a 3 Gadgie party into Rapax Castle) so might go back to Wiz7.

The fountain next to the Holy Work in Munkarama (there's an h in there somewhere) is a good one; once your Swimming is high enough to get to it (3 tiles) then you can swim, drink, swim agaain until you max. There's a hidden spawn button just around the corner back on dry land, i think it spawns more Mad Munks. But it's a long trip to that fountain if you're not in the Munk dungeon.

(about Wiz7)

@Secretmaster: The 'free' fountain at father Rulae doesn't resurrect. That's the other one which you only access if you donate all your money.

@Krull: The four goodies were in the city of sky. No mana fountain there IIRC, and none nearby. Wiz7 was non-linear too, but for me it was usually the last area befor the final dungeon. At least, you must have the ship, and be strong enough to fight your way through the dragon caves.

@Scatter: You need all the maps (except the fool's map). The legends map is the only one which you have to 'use'. But at the bottom of the final dungeon, there are spots where the names of the other maps are written. You have to walk over these spots, with the maps in your inventory, to get the last door to open.

@Krull (again): There were places where you could rest without danger of being disturbed; for exmaple, all buildings in new city that doesn't contain monster the first time you enter them. But i often went back to the next fountain instead of resting.

I cannot seem to find CotDS--only for Apple. I got Wiz Gold, but the version on that disk doesn't work in an acceptable manner (using win xp). I know there was a thread for the problems but I can't find it.

No, you do NOT need the maps in your posession to trigger the final door. I outta know, i sold them all for Ankhs many times.

Here's a patch that might help: http://www.softwarespecialties.com/wiz11a1.zip

and a site with some forums for W-7 and W-8: http://www.softwarespecialties.com/

@ Ace Croybant

You need a program called "DoSBox" or "VDMSound".

You can get DosBox here: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/

You can get VDMSound here: http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/

I could have sworn you needed the maps. I thought they had some info to get into the tomb of the astral dominae? Like a riddle.

And I loved the city of the skies. All i did was get super money and buy ankhs, and max out my attributes.

BTW, in the sunken citadael and the dungeon with the power orb in Munkaharma (where you fight the lord of the dark forest), there is a small encounter with gibbering munks or something like that. My first game, they diseased me without realizing it, and i saved. Halfway through, my guy was stoned lol.
