On the subject of lava, I note there was plenty of lava waaaay down on the ground of Coruscant. You can see it as The Odd Couple zoom by in their speeder. I wonder...

How is it that Anakin cannot block Count Dooku's lightning with his lightsaber and Obi Wan can? From the looks of it, the lightning should just be drawn to the lightsaber as if magnetic. But with Anakin that didn't happen.

Maybe because Anakin is so dense that his natural gravity overrode the lightsaber's mechanisms.

Hmm... I'd assumed it was just something to do with Obi-Wan being a better jedi and seeing it coming... maybe he needed to bring the saber into contact with the lightning and the rest of it was drawn into the saber, like forming a connection? Or maybe... force lightning = dark side power, lightsaber = charged with light side power (the crystal in it is, at least), some kind of cancel-out?

I was wondering if Obi hadn't had extra training to deal with this kind of thing, but how do you train to defend against something that hasn't been seen in 1000 years, eh?

Personally I think it's because of training, Obi Wan was more in tune with the force, he didn't let himself get emotional (except when he tapped the dark side to waste Darth Maul) (I don't care what Terry Brooks or Lucas say Kenobi was channeling some serious dark side that day), but not only that, Obi Wan listened to his teachers, he didn't think "hey I'm the jedi messiah, all these pukes should bow down to me, and let me teach them" like anikan does, and that humility let him know how to stop the lightning, or at least listen up in class the day they taught that lesson, instead of running off to make out with a naboo senator.

Luke had problems with Palpatines lightning as well, he simply hadn't been trained on how to deal with it, and he had no clue in any of the books for how to deal with it, look at Joruus C'Baoth in one of the Grand Admiral Thrawn books by Timothy Zahn, the training wasn't there for him to learn to stop it. and in Return of the Jedi Anikan still hadn't figured out the trick and died because of it.

as for droids lasting several hundred years, I didn't write the book, I just read it.

Mind you, when the Emperor hit Luke with bzzapy death, Luke had thrown his saber away (d'oh!).

I expect more bad acting and cheesy story and dialouge. Special effects I'm sure will be nice but....whenever its on on HBO I might watch it when bored
