Yes you can (I can't right now because I'm playing a solo monk )
In the earlier versions there was a bug which wouldn't let you lay traps with thiefs on lower levels (up to lvl7) but this is fixed now, so: tadaa! cheese attack!

Gee... I wonder if they had considered the ramifications of allowing that to happen in BG1. NONE of the enemies in BG1 are designed to handle traps. Is it possible to disable traps in BG1 only? Imagine setting traps at the Demon's Knight spawning spot in TotSC!

The cynical will say the same applies to BG2, but then, at least the developers had the advantage of knowing beforehand that traps might be used.

Actually, even in standard ToSC you could do pretty much the same thing, provided you're willing to abuse your out-of-character game knowledge. There are roughly the same number of Skull Trap scrolls as there are Mages and Bards, so a killer minefield is just as possible.

(Cheesy players will also know how to Backstab while wearing Full Plate, too.)
I know how to BS(not bulls***, mind you ) while wearing Full Plate, and have done it with my solo Ranger/Cleric in BG1(im playing BGT on insane, so i use it for some of the harder enemies to soften them up). I dont use it too much anymore, because virtually no-one can hit me(pretty much the only ones to have hit me are mages and some special enemies, such as the leader of the Black Talon). I also dont consider it cheese, since i dont get a backstab multiplier...

Is there a law against it?

BTW, I was doing a search, and didn't realize how old it really was.

No law, but people don't like it because then they have to read through so many other old posts to know what you're talking about. But, IIRC, the forum rules tell you not to raise old threads.
