To get there, you have to be registered with DAZ. (You have to register with Renderosity to get to there free stuff, too.)

I did did register, and all it does is go to a search page. Now if I have a victoria 3 and a DL piece is for victoria 4, will it work?

Are you logged in to DAZ? Go to the main DAZ page and login. Then, go to free.daz3d.com and click on 'free model archive'.
Cross-figure: from V3 to V4 (or vice versa) textures will not work at all, some items will work with tweaking and some (especially hair, but not hair in the figure folder) work perfectly; but, none of the morphs will work. Important to note is that all gen3 characters use the same texture mapping, so a texture for V3 will work on A3 (but if you use a MAT file to apply it, you will have to do some areas manually, as A3 is mapped differently). M3s textures work on H3. You can look for textures for David 3 (D3) and Stephanie 3 Petite (SP3), Luke 3, Laura 3 and the Freak (who is a modified version of M3). Any of their textures will work on any of the others. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ok, this is still beyond me for the most part. For example, I DLed some of the hair from the site you gave me, and I have no idea where it should go and/or if it can work becuz I cannot get it to work.

If you open up the zip for the hair, it should have a directory structure that looks something like /runtime/libraries/...
Now, depending on where you placed V3 and the gang, probably the 'content' folder? unzip the hair files, preserving the file structure, to the same place. Just as there is a figures top folder when you're in Studio to pick which figure, there is a hair top folder. In the scene, select the character you want to apply the hair to, switch panels to navigate to the hair, double click and it will apply to the appropriate spot on your character tree, if not the correct spot in space (if you are using an A3 hair for V3, you will need to increase the y trans, and vice versa but decrease the y trans). |

Ok, just to make sure I understand this: the folder with "content" has folders like runtime/libraries ect like in your explanation, but when I DL the hair I leave in in the content folder under the hair-name so that it has its own structure in its own folder (again like runtime/libraries ect) or do I OVERWRITE the existing content folders of runtime/libraries ect?
If they DL to thier own folder, then the ones I have DL-ed don't work for victoria 3. If I'm supposed to overwrite the existing files, then I need to do so. I have been playing around with the victoria 3 content, and putting a "catsuit" on her and posing her with a premade pose is simple, but using any DL-ed hair does nothing at this time... ST

The hair should not be in it's own structure. You want it to be in the already existing structure of /runtime/libraries/etc. The only fies that would be overwritten are those with the same name, which happens quite often with "readme.txt"

Ok, now I got it, and I understand that with standard unpack features I may have to manually move stuff (if you have a packing program like WinZip you can select single files and/or not extract everything, elsewise you have to deal with the structure of folders used by the person who packed it in he first place)
Anyhow, now I can have her in a pose with clothes AND hair. I'll be playing with this for some time, and picking up freebies and not-so-expensivies for use. I might even look into the more affordable commercial programs out there as well (poser comes to mind, but haven't looked it up online yet) ST ps, I'm sure I'll have more questions real soon.

I think you can get poser 7 for around $100 to $150, and I know poser 6 is still for sale, and presumably cheaper. I'm not sure if either one will run on your machine, though. You might need to add some RAM first.
As for modeling programs, DAZ has a program called Hexagon which is decent and around the same price as poser. |
