A question Aviendha or anyone else who lives in Aussie and listens to this music. Did you just go out and buy the cd's from a music store or order them in? Or just download them?

Azurewolf,
I am lucky to live in Sydney, where we have the one and only Utopia Records store. They pretty much get anything and everything metal into Australia. If they don't get something I want, I order off the net (it is very rare that they don't get something I want.) Anyway, I own about 350 cds and I would have bought about 300 of them at Utopia. What about you? I'd like to know of a good place online! Aviendha. |

Iluvatar Oakenshield, I liked your top 30. This is what I think of it (and please don't take any offense to any of my statements)
1 My Dying Bride - Turn loose the swans (Definitely the best) 2 Haggard - And thou shall trust... the seer (Good, talented..not my thing) 3 Empyrium - Songs of moors and misty fields (Excellent) 4 Summoning - Dol Guldor (I love this album, nearly top 30) 5 Summoning - Let mortal heroes sing your fame (I've got it, but I haven't listened to it very much yet) 6 Dissection - Storm of the lights bane (Absolute classic) 7 Dark Tranquillity - The gallery (My favourite DT album) 8 My Dying Bride - The angel and the dark river (Brilliant) 9 Enslaved - Eld (The worst Enslaved album. Crap drum sound! 10 Mithotyn - King of the distant forest (Don't like Viking metal) 11 Amon Amarth - Once sent from the golden hall (Good, but not great Death Metal 12 Abigor - Nachthymnen (from the twilight kingdom) (Fantastic, not as good as Orkblut though) 13 Satyricon - Nemsis divina (Bloody Awesome) 14 Ancient Rites - Dim carcosa (I really don't like this at all) 15 My Dying Bride - The dreadful hours (This is a great comeback album) 16 My Dying Bride - As the flower withers (The start of a very good thing) 17 Empyrium - A wintersunset (Excellent again) 18 My Dying Bride - Like gods of the sun (One of the lesser MDB albums) 19 Immortal - Blizzard beasts (By far the worst Immortal album. Battles in the North and Sons of the Northern Darkness are heaps better) 20 Satyricon - The shadowthrone (I love this album) 21 Burzum - Filosofem (Burzum..the one and only. Classic.) 22 Haggard - Awakening the centuries (Not my thing) 23 Dark Funeral - Secrets of the black arts (Good Black Metal. Great Sound) 24 Amortis - Summoned by astral fires (The first album here that I haven't heard) 25 Summoning - Minas Morgul (This is just awesome!) 26 Emperor - In the nightside eclipse (I don't need to say anything about this one!) 27 Burzum - Hvis lyset tar oss (The most atmospheric album of all time) 28 Nile - Black seeds of vengeance (Brutal, unadulterated talent) 29 Angizia - Das tagebuch der Hanna Annikin (Never heard it. What is it?) 30 In flames - The jester race (Good, but standard At the Gates is better) I own 23 out of your top 30! Good stuff! Aviendha. |

9 Enslaved - Eld (The worst Enslaved album. Crap drum sound!
Agree - stopped listening to them after it... Frost is a true classic though! 12 Abigor - Nachthymnen (from the twilight kingdom) (Fantastic, not as good as Orkblut though) like Nachthymnen the best as well, personally. Though it's been quite a while since I listened to any Abigor at all. 19 Immortal - Blizzard beasts (By far the worst Immortal album. Battles in the North and Sons of the Northern Darkness are heaps better) Ugh... Again, agree. And then, full price for only 29 crappy minutes?? What a rip off - I traded my copy for something else with a friend... 13 Satyricon - Nemsis divina (Bloody Awesome) 20 Satyricon - The shadowthrone (I love this album) The Shadowthrone is one of the best BM albums ever, and to me still the best thing Satyricon ever did. Great band. Incidentally, does anyone know Wongraven (Satyr's side project, in the vein of I en svart kiste) 21 Burzum - Filosofem (Burzum..the one and only. Classic.) Burzum rules... heh ![]() Have all the albums (most of them digipacks) and love them all, even Daudi Baldrs. I like Burzum/Aske and Hvis Lyset Tar Oss better than Filosofem though... But the Filosofem longsleeve looks great - I have that one too. 29 Angizia - Das tagebuch der Hanna Annikin (Never heard it. What is it?) We discussed a bit about this band earlier - it is one of the weirdest bands around and I'm not sure you'd like it (so far, Iluvatar's the only one I know who's as big a fan as I am). It is a weird mix of metal and classical music, relying more heavily on the classical instruments (mostly piano, violins/celli and wind instruments, with soprano, tenor and bass vocals). There are different musicians on each of the three albums (the first album has a VERY good tenor, the second a slightly irritating "original" screaming voice for instance) but the core of the band stays roughly the same. I really cannot descrie the music well enough - the only way to know is to listen to it. Be warned, this is definitely a love it or hate it band. I think they're the best thing in years... ![]() [ 05-05-2002, 08:28 AM: Message edited by: Melusine ]

Yes, I own the Wongraven cd. It's wonderfully medieval and atmospheric. I'm off to check out this Angizia band. I'll tell you what I think! Is there a particular couple of songs that best represent what they are about?

Could you PM me the address of Utopia? In Canberra I struggle to find anything worthwhile at cd stores now, mostly just whatever the new "fad" is at that time in music. Yikes and so many cds! I got about 50-60 in total, but then again until last year I was pennyless. So good to be working and being able to afford stuff ![]() I have found some good online stores before, but never bookmarked them so I've lost the URL. Altho I remember a particulary good one a friend showed me once that had a huge range on it. I'll see if I can get it off him again. |

How about Schellenklingeln / Vom Kurzen Leben Fast Verschneiter Gruner Trauben or Die Elenden Skribenten Von Bach Und Wolkenkuckucksheim or maybe Die Fieberschauer Eines Betrunknen Schwarzen Schmetterlings ![]() About Wongraven - do you listen to any similar bands? It's a whole genre, one I even prefer to most metal.
