Except advancing to grandmastery actually increases your APR by one. For example;
Anomen has ** in Warhammers, and being a level 7 fighter grants him an additional 1/2 attack per round, so he attacks twice per round when using a warhammer. Advancing him to gransmastery with warhammers provides an *additional* attack per round, so he now attacks 3 times per round. Another example; character X is a level 13 fighter dual wielding 2 long swords. He has ** in long swords. X therefore attacks with the primary weapon at 5/2, and gets a bonus attack from the off hand increasing his attacks to 7 every 2 rounds (7/2). If he now advances to the point of grandmastery, he gains an additional attack per round so he will attack 9/2. Wearing the gauntlets of extra. spec. increases the attacks to 5 per round. It's a little misleading but grandmastery actually accounts for one and a half attacks rather than one. |

Eh? I am not quite following you. According to the readme for the Grandmastery patch,
1* +0 Apr 2* +1/2 Apr 3* +1/2 Apr 4* +1/2 Apr 5* +1 Apr Where did you obtain the additional 1/2 Apr from? Assuming Grandmaster, a person using weapon x will have, Base Apr of 1 5* = +1 Apr GoES = +1/2 Apr 7/13 = +1 Apr Which equals 7/2 Apr. |

That's what I meant by misleading, but it's always been the case for me, right through BG1 and IWD, that the description for grandmastery is wrong. It's as if the +1 attack per round is cumulative with the 1/2 attack per round for the earlier specialisations. I've just tested this by starting some random new games. I created a kensai with ***** in halberd, and straight away at level 7 he had 3 attacks per round, 1 base, 1/2 from level 7 and 1.5 from grandmastery, which means that he would have 7/2 at level 13, and 4 with the gauntlets. The patch i'm using for BG2 came from baldurdash which sets the grandmastery to the same levels as in IWD and BG1. In IWD, using a greatsword at level 13 with say **** in the greatsword proficiency, a character would attack 2.5 times per round. If then at level 15, you place a fifth point in greatswords, the character would then attack 3.5 times per round. It's the same principal when you use the gransmastery patch for BG2.

Jim, are you playing with the True Grandmastery patch, perhaps?
Impressive job, guys! I have another suggestion to test: Ages +5 on main hand, BELM on the off hand. (25 STR, of course). I think that this will be our winner... I would have calculated it, but doing math both in school AND in my free time is an overkill. ![]()

Just tested it out myself and aye! So it is!
The implications of this! Could this mean then that... ... Base Apr: 2 5* = +3/2 Apr 7/13 = +1 Apr GoES = +1/2 Apr YES!!!! Houston! We have confirmation! HAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHA! WAHAHAHAHA! ![]() All these months, all these D*** MONTHS nodding my head in agreement as people praised the superority of Tuigan Bow +1 versus Strongarm +2. YES! YES! Finally! I can now say that Longbows deal more damage than Shortbows, instead of just advertising their roleplay value... ... Pity this still does not solve the fact that you can only have +4 enchanted arrows with Shortbows... ... Oh well, score one for the Longbow lovers! With the Grandmastery Patch,
FoA +5 and CF +5 = 5 Apr FoA +5 and Belm +2 = 5 Apr 5 Apr is the cap, and can only be raised through magical means. |

Ah yes, I forgot about the APR cap. Oh well, belm would be a good choice for warriors that can't grandmaster (paladins and rangers).
