I already rolled 89 for the stats. And 6, youre right about the spell reference site for exploiting the spells as much as they can. so i simply disregard the cheese options, and i stay the hell away from those spell tactics like endless spells. i might as well use SK to give me 10 spells per level. no, i do this to learn magics some more. i have some trouble tackling the better mages (liches and dragons) in the game...

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that you can defeat mencar and his gang right after you did the circus? I died two times in the circus because of fake werewolfs! What level were you when you did mencar?

"I died two times in the circus because of fake werewolfs!"

The fake werewolfs will not do dammage until you try to attack them. IIRC they also provide 0 experience, making it a generally bad idea to try to attack them if your soloing a magic user.

Well, good for you then! I can't tell you how tired I get of all the powergamers who are so proud of themselves for setting loads of Traps all around a Dragon's feet when he's not hostile, and then fire an arrow at him and watch him die. "i am so powerful i killed [insert name of enemy here] in 1 second! no 1 can beat me i rule"

And then when they actually encounter a difficult fight, they post that they "really need killsw01 how do i get plz plz PLZ".

It's so refreshing to meet a roleplayer. Wecome, Zuvio.

heh, lol. i cheated so hard when i first got the game (2-3 years back?), because i didnt had 1 clue of what was going on. then i started reading the manual and learning about the game's system. now im completely D&D hooked!!

Anyway, i got a question too: is there a way to prevent *held* early on in the game? I just found myself being beaten to death by a carrion crawler under the copper coronet. Im lvl 11 conjurer now. Need I find a specific spell or so? or a ring?

Ways to not be held by carrion crawler:
1. Stay away from it, you don't have to fight it to continue.
2. send in some summons first, it should concentrate on them.

Yes, you can kill mencar and crew straight out of the first dungeon. You need 2 spells (3 if you wanna haste) Spider spawn and web (see where this is going?) Just web the room 3-4 times, summon your spiders(haste), and order them to attack pookie and the mage, then watch them kill everything in the room.

You contradict yourself. You say you want to learn more about your spells, but you do not want to learn the advanced techniques. If you note carefully, none of the tactics involve cheating, but brillant usage of spells.

The computer Mages on the other hand, do cheat as they do not follow the rules which you as a player, is restricted by.

Level 9, solo Sorcerer. Web + Spider Spawn owns Mencar Pebblecrusher.

Use Mirror Image and Stoneskins to prevent the Werewolves from disrupting your spells as you enter the second level of the circus. Quickly summon fodder to distract them from you and to get rid of them while you use Magic Missiles and Melf's Minute Meteors to handle the Shadows.

Truth be told, I feel insulted that we are being compared to the Trappers. We do NOT abuse the AI, we just devise ways to bring out the full potential of our spells in such a way that it augments our Mages/Sorcerers' power.

We do NOT cheat, so that comment about the killsw01 is uncalled for and slanderous. You also know me to a certain extent, SixOfSpades, and you know I DESPISE cheating.

Finally, in what way does knowing how to become powerful with spells conflict with roleplaying? Elminister in the game has for all purposes, infinite Imprisonments, but nobody complains because hey! He is supposed to be one of the most powerful spellcasters in Faerun... and then there is the matter of Arkanis Gath... ...

One can still roleplay and be a powerful spellcaster. The two are not mutually exclusive.
[/RANT]

In conclusion, I can only say that it is your loss if you do not wish to understand the nuts and bolts of magic in this game, as it will enable you to fully appreciate the extend of what you can do. You can still complete it, but never reach your full potential.

I stand corrected. Honestly. I admit i made a false statement saying the endless spells techniques are cheats (maybe cheese though, PUT THAT ROCK DOWN!!), it just seemed that way to me. I'll learn them when I get there.

And I just finished the whole slaver business with hendak and such, took me about 1,5 hours (if only to run back and forth to sell the loot!). Mages I like!
