I'll be missing you is as of now 8 years old, so feel free to do the math on how old you were during the time of its release. If you were 10-14 years old back then (or even younger), I'm simply not buying any claims that this blunt approach is how you always felt about it.

Most of the younger posters here probably hardly even knew The Police before Puff Daddy released his version of Every breath you take, or hardly knew Led Zeppelin well enough to care about him borrowing the Kashmir riff. My point? Even if you think they're dreadful adaptations in retrospect, it did help you to raise awareness of the source material. Heck, I'm pretty sure Sting didn't mind Puff Daddy borrowing the riff at all - not only because of all the royalty income, but also because it helped to give attention among younger crowds to The Police, giving them a very welcome publicity boost (a Sting & The Police greatest hits album was released shortly thereafter, and even though there was no real relevance to clut the market with yet another greatest hits compilation, it sold like crazy). On top of that, Sting even collaborated with Puff Daddy for a hiphop remake of Roxanne shortly thereafter. You may not like the outcome, but it seems some of the fans are more rabid about 'raping the originals' as those responsible for the originals themselves.
As for the Godzilla song, you *were* aware that Jimmy Page himself collaborated with Puff Daddy for that one, right? Same thing as above.

I'll be the last to claim that I prefer the Puff Daddy versions over the originals (though I was 16 at the time, and despite (or because of?) the fact that I was a *huge* Sting-fan in those days, I enjoyed it all the same ), but at least get your facts straight and look deeply into the mirror before you start calling people names, just because the mob mentality in this topic gives you an opportunity to get away with it.
I only heard of Sting and the Police because my ex was a huge fan. Prolly still is, but we don't talk, to say the least. I don't like any 'rap', so I doubt that anything pdiddildy squat did would interest me.

My father is a big music fan, so I knew "Every Breath You Take" before Puff Daddy came with his version of it. Although I was a toddler when the song was released, I've heard it many times.
I can even safely boast that I didn't hear Los Lobos' La Bamba for the first time at a school party.
