I stumbled onto this thread too late to offer any mind shattering advice. However, I have to say that the best thing in the end is always to be honest and not play games.

You were up front with Black and if he chooses to be weird to you, you can't really do much about that. The thing you can do is always be the same way you always have been. If you let how people feel about your choices dictate what they will be, you'll never find time to live life for yourself.

Furthermore, we girl's much prefer a guy asking us out then to go through the process of asking someone else if we like them first. I say go for it. You're already friends, worst thing that could happen would be for you guys to go out and for it to be painfully obvious that she only thinks of you as a friend. :0)

So there you have it. In my opinion you never had to choose between friend and girl in this situation. If your friend starts to cold shoulder you, chances are it will be temporary while his pride is wounded.

Also, for the record, in my mind it's all up to teh girl to choose in the end and you have little say over it! *grins*

Good luck!

And they all lived happily ever after in a nice house by the ocean, a big BMW in the garage and two labrador retrievers.
