The opportunity for prank calls grows quite a lot in University accomodation. In my halls every room had a phone, and we all had free internal calls. Cue large amounts of pointless prank calls. However, for the most part ours weren't terribly subtle and most people could tell who it was quite easily. We shouted things like:

"YOU'RE MY WIFE NOW DAVE!" ala the League of Gentlemen
or
"Chilli Sauce? Garlic Sauce?" in naff greek accents. Don't ask me why, we just did.

I think it might be a bit different if it wasn't blatantly obvious who the calls were coming from though. Maybe people will forgive you, either way, don't do it again! Or at least, make sure they're laughing too.

Prank calls have been going around ever since telephones were installed. Back in the old days, it was "Do you have Prince Albert in a can? You do? Better let the poor guy out!" or "Is your house on Main Street? It is? Better move it, the bus is coming!" or "Is your refrigerator running? Better run catch it!"

Don't feel too badly, Lennon. Hopefully your friends will come around. As Epona said, you've learned a valuable lesson..."The Phone Is Not A Toy."

When I was about 13 or so me and my friend got this stupid idea by answering the phone in a weird way, of course this was before the time of caller ID or anything like that so we never knew who were calling. But my friend always answered "The crematorium can I help you?"... needles to say he stopped after his grandmother called one day...
