Don't forget the Man of the Year in 1938.

Well, my understanding of the Person of the Year process is not necessary how was the best man (person) of the year, but who created the most significant news events.

As for Stalin being picked in 1942, remember at that time he was leading the country that was keeping Germany bogged down in the east, which forstalled an invasion of England. That is a pretty important place in history.

Apparently Osama bin Laden and Yasser Arafat were on the shortlist this year.

You can say a lot about Adolf Hitler and his plans, but the man did an amazing job by putting Germany back on track after the First World War. Germany's war debt was immensely high, and mr Hitler may not have turned out a real 'savior' to the country, but he sure as hell did something astounding (before invading Poland).

On topic: I don't agree that the American G.I.'s should be 'man of the year'. I don't think there should be a man of the year at all, because people will NEVER agree with each other.

It's a shame his insanity glosses over all that.

Awww c'mon now. Everyone is worthy of celebration, it all depends on which side of any particular fence you choose to sit on. The important thing is that you choose to celebrate, rather than denegrate. When it comes to the crunch, there is always something that you can find in common with your fellow human beings, you just have to make the effort to look. Everyone has their own idea of what should make the 'person of the year', the important thing is that we are able to look for the good in people and celebrate their accomplishments. You're all the people of the year in my book!

Not really, they could have beaten them, if he didn't keep overruling his general's decisions in which targets to attack first. And more, if he didn't focus on Stalingrad so much. The Russians were already broken, but he allowed them to get back on their feet. The world can be grateful for him being such a dumbass.
