well, diablo 2 had atleast one thing bg 2 doesn`t have: about 60 different combat abilities for each class. i think D2:LoD was very exiting, but not as good as ToB

I had a sorceres lvl 65. 24 slots on Wormth,24 slots on Cold Mastery, 24 slots on Frozen Orb and 4(1+3) slots on teleport. And she was an ultimate weapon of Death, the True Lord of Destruction. I don't think you can find such a character in BG. I mean BG is far more balanced and it makes huge diference. After ToB i don't think there is a single character who can finish the game (with Max Difficulty set)

BG series is by far the best because it actually involves tactics...which D2 doesnt...d2 is like this...you click on the ground....your guy runs to that spot...you spot a monster...you click on it...it dies...you click again...another monster dies...some monsters require TWO clicks *gasp*...so i would say that Diablo II is CRAP (not trying to flame, its just my opinion)

Well looky here! finaly somebody posts this topic, for i am the diablo 2; Lord of Destruction(the expac) queen! 2 accounts all full, all characters above lvl 90. every type of sorceress(firewall, orb/t-storm, nova, fire-ball) so heres my expert analysis, sine im a freak for all role playing games:
Diablo2, Lord of Destruction:Awesome characters:Barbarian, Sorceress, Assassin, Druid, Amazon, Paladin, Necromancer; all with amazing skills.
The items, unique and rare: for those of you whove played D2, you all know how bad-ass those items are (soj, serepent skin yadda yadda).
The problem: Its repetitive. All hack and slash, you hardy need any strategy, except when youre dueling, and unless ur a sorceress, u wouldnt survive a duel with another sorceress. i mean, going through four long levels with 3 difficulties is gonna get boring really fast. Even the cow level gets borig after awhile! moo! lol

Baldurs Gate, Shadows of Amn, Throne of Bhaal: All excellent games, more class choices then D2. Plus, everyone in D2 is human, what fun is that? You can be evil, good, neutral, whatever.
The Items: lets face it, for those of you whove played D2 and LoD you know theres no comparing items. D2 is the ultimate item maker, damage an special statswise.
The Problem: Hardly any, except after youve played it 50 times it gets boring. And the cinematic scenes you cant skip, like irenicus's dungeon and all that.

So, D2 or BG?
My opinion? Both! D2 is an awesome online game, guilds galor(korean slayers, pkers). Baldur is a fun role playing game. i have both with all the expacs. Just user prefrence. Ive spent my weekends playing BG2 and ToB, and last summer every waking minute was played on D2. I love them both. and if you havnt tried D2 or LoD(LoD is way better)give them a shot, im sure youll like them

It's ironic actually. Diablo 2 was what got me hooked to Baldur's Gate 2.

For one, if I hadn't ever attended the forums of Diablo II on the Blizzard website, then I never would have found out about Baldur's Gate II, or the whole BG Series. I had heard many mixed reviews from other Diablo II fans. Some said BG2 sucked. Of course, these were the type of people who wrote down words such as r0x0x0rs and whatever the hell all of that other annoying stuff means. Some said it was cool. I had to see for myself.

So I bought the game, played it, and ended up uninstalling Diablo 2. Now don't get me wrong, I liked Diablo 2, but mainly for it's Multi-player gaming, which got boring fast though. You see, I hated it at the same time because of the predictibility of it. Whenever someone wanted to PK (Player Kill) me, they went hostile, and it wasn't only easy to defend myself when need be, but I could also just Town Portal myself to town and go somewhere else.

And there were STILL people complaining about Pks! God, Multiplayer games are boring as hell if you DO NOT have a chance of losing items after a while!

Anyway, I liked Diablo 1 too, but too many cheaters using Trainers on Diablo Multiplayer to like it. I'll say it again, the Pks didn't ruin Diablo, the cheaters did.

Someone cheats so they won't be pked.

Then they begin to pk people, and find it fun.

Items duplicated everywhere.

When I want to roleplay in a multiplayer environment, I want to Role Play, which means I don't want to go through 'care bear land' knowing I won't ever be backstabbed. I want an element of Danger.

So came BG 2, which although I never tried Multiplayer, I found quite enjoyable. For one, more complex, and there's always an element of danger with whoever you deal with in the Baldur's Gate world. (Might I add, I did meet one person who hated Baldur's Gate because they didn't like to be 'backstabbed'. (Think some of the characters, they also hated Pks in Diablo))

The only thing BG does lack would be the items, however, this is a D&D game, you're supposed to gain items, then eventually the DM takes them away, Via kidnapping. (Via Irenicus)

Now, all we need is the creators of Diablo, Baldur's Gate, and Ultima Online to make the most cool and rocking Multi-Player game online ever! A dream that will never come true.

So I will buy Neverwinter Nights as soon as I find it then...

I have D1 D2 and expansions.I also have the BG series except ToSC.
There can be no comparison between the games.Theey are two different things. One is an RPG (BG) while the other is plain hack'n'slash.
I liked diablo a lot but it is not an RPG,and since I am an RPG hardhead my vote goes to BG
