MAN, i wish i cauld make my ranger an archer. i love them, anyway, speaking of....
its really really really really (this could go on for a while) really stupid that elvin archers get a penelty, because elfs should probably get a bonus for a being an archer

Ogres are the best bet IMHO. There are certain areas in the game where they just seem to breed (ugh). And am I the only who gets waylaid by ogre mages like every time???

But dont forget that if a fight is tough then having the guy as your ranger's racial enemy is not going to tip the scales dramatically in your favour
 You can chose your RE rolelaywise also. Like it was gnolls for Minsc.
