I have installed the BGtutu mode that lets you play BG1 with the BG2 Engine, with interface, resolution and kits. But this raises a lot of qustions for me. I hope you can answer them.
- Do I get to rechoose my racial enemy and weapon prof when I import to BG2? Some people have said that since I have the Tutu, the game will not be importet like any other BG1 save. And therefore I don´t get to rechoose racial enemy and weapon prof. If this is the case, I must choose my weapon prof acording to BG2 and weapon prof acording to BG2. That would mean racial enemy: Vampires (witch there are none of in BG1) and weapon prof Kantanas and maces (Arn´t any katanas in BG1 at all. That suck). - What kind of racial enemy should I choose for my eleven stalker? Witch kind of enemy is most troublesome in BG1? Hope you can help me. Can´t start the game until I know these things. Thanks |
In BG1 the most troublesome are ogres and spiders (of the monsters which you can chose as racial enemy). But both of those are rather easy in BG2. You might also try skeletons.

Yes, I concur. I could have sworn I replied to this saying something similar (except for skeletons, which I'll get to in a moment)... Am I going mad?
Ogres will give you grief the entire game, particularly ogre magi. Spiders are troublesome, but once you pass Cloakwood, you'll be fine. The rest of the racial enemies are wastes. Gnolls? Don't make me laugh. Have someone cast Fireball and roast the buggers. Skeletons? Surely somebody must be able to turn undead... |
Don’t do spiders. They’re only a problem in the Cloakwood area, and you can even get 2 Slow Poisons as innate abilities. Don’t bother with that.
Skeletons? Yeah right. Ogres? Nope, don’t even bother. Ogres will not be a problem like Illumina said they will. There aren’t too many of them in the game, anyway. Gnolls-Don’t bother. Only time you’ll have trouble potentially is in their Stronghold when you’re completely surrounded. Can you make a gibberling your racial enemy? Well, if you do, I’ll just have to make fun of you . Vampires won’t be a threat in BG2 if you use a certain mace or an axe, or you could use a certain hammer in ToB. No need to make it a vampire since the mace can be gotten early on in BG2. |
Ogres are more of a problem than any other BG1 racial enemies.
I'm operating under the assumption that you'll be able to re-pick once you get to SoA. If you need to pick one and stick with it, then hell, pick a racial enemy from SoA even if it means you won't fight any until you get to SoA. The racial enemies in BG1 are worthless. Out of the choices given, ALL BG1 racial enemies are worthless. I just thing ogres are the least worthless |
There aren't that many ogres in BG1.
|
There are several ogre magi scattered throughout the game, and a large ogre in a certain tavern in the city of Baldur's Gate.
Can you honestly tell me there's a better racial enemy to have? (Not counting the SoA racial enemies. They win, hands down.) |

I would definitely pick ogres. There are millions of them. Skeletons, kobolds, spiders, zombies and gnolls are also plentiful, but they're easy. Ogres, on the other hand, are famous for knocking off 15hp+ every time they hit, which cant be said for any of the other monsters there. The ogre mages and ogre beserkers are even tougher, so I'd absolutely go with that as racial enemy.
|
Then what would you recommend, Lord?
I didn't say the game was crawling with ogres. But can you honestly say that, over the course of the game, gnolls will cause more reloads than ogres? That zombies will cause you more suffering than the building full of ogre magi? That skeletons will kill you more times than the Khark (Is that how you spell it? The guy from Carsa's jar)? And don't forget the ogre berserkers and the hit ogre in the tavern in Baldur's Gate... I don't mean to sound snippy, but can you suggest a better racial enemy?
