Well, if you just stand there and do nothing they will eventually kill you.
However, this map is one of the maps you can rest on without EVER being interrupted by wild creatures. Ofcourse, first you have to kill the zombies. The other map is BG bridge. You only have to kill 1 Ankheg there.

Hey, Flaming Fist Enforcer, don't take it for granted that the Zombies will get you if you stand there waiting. That's just what I did but they couldn't do it. Go on - give it a try and be amazed at how useless they are!

The first thing I do when I start a new game is to recruit Imoen, Kivan, Jaheira, Khalid, Viconia, and go beat Ankhegs until I'm level 4 or so.

Amazing how a bunch of farmers can't just kill off these almost harmless zombies with pitchforks and staves.
