So, Justice (Paladin), Immy, Kalid (oh how I hate him), Jaheira, and Garrick dump Kaigan in the Friendly Arm for failure to be a GoodyTwoShoes(tm). (BTW - is there *any* way to help him actually find the caravan he's looking for??) Then, they move North just to explore before Nashkel.

Well, having been through the area once years before ( ), they knew that Ankhegs were about in this area, and that Ankhegs were really powerful from the point of view of someone of their meager talents. Meet Adjantis. No need for another tank, but this is bug-land, so add him to the party. Meet fishermen. Stick to lake and head north to find a priestess of the Bitch Queen (sorry, that is here name, though). Go N. one more map.

Work North, stopping to gawk at Baldur's Gate. Meet priestess, beat her up a bit, then talk with her. Okay so far. Head back south. Save Game.

After several reloads I was able to make it through the ambush by 40 thieves. Carrying Garrick's limp body, we move on South (can't save - is saving not allowed in ambush scenes?). All are wounded, Adjantis is nearly dead. When we arrive, it is DARK and there are these ominious chittery-clicky sounds. RUN!!!!! (tried fighting a time or two - very poor results). Bypass farmers (waiving briefly - promising to come back soon and beat the crap out of them) bypass everything, go South once more, run and hide in the Friendly Arm by the fire.

NOT a well-planned outing, if you ask me. :( And now, Jaheira just won't shut up about Nashkel.

True...it is generally unwise to go north of the Friendly Arm Inn too soon. It is also unwise to travel down the coast south of Candlekeep, to explore the woods east of the road connecting the Friendly Arm Inn and Nashkel, or to browse around the southeastern areas of the map before you have an average party level of 4.

In many ways, Baldur's Gate is much more difficult than Shadows of Amn.

It's Khalid and Kagain (it might be a typo, but anyway).

No, the only thing you can do about this (I believe you know already) is SPOILER
*to go to the area south of FAI and then he'll tell you that you can stop searching for his caravan.*

No, because you can't save during a fight and if you kill all the enemies on the map they will respawn if you stay there long enough. BTW, travelling between areas autosaves the game so you don't even need to save there.

I know, they are tough, but I remember that way back, when I played this game for the first time I went there and, ofcourse, didn't know what creatures inhabit that map. So I started exploring the map and when I found one I killed him without him killing any of my chars. The next one killed me, tough.

Khalid was a typo. Kagain and Ajantis were lack of knowledge/attention. I really can't be bothered to fret over proper spelling of made-up fantasy names. Sorry. ;)

about Kagains caravan, one map north of Beregost if you wander around you'll find the slaughtered remains of a caravan, once Kagain sees this he'll decide it was his and stop nagging you to find it.

I would argue against that, if I haven't played Morrowind... God, those names! Zillions of NPCs with such a similar sounding names, it is unendurable.

Morgeruat, it was already posted ;) .

It's not Kagain's caravan. When you get to that area and he sees that caravan he says that he's tired of looking for it and that they will never find it among all the other dead caravans the party has been coming across (funny, I remember only that one).

I feel certain he is referring to the travel time between Beregost and that area - something 8 hours, IIRC.

I have killed all the ankhegs with a lvl 1 party (or more correct: They were all lvl 1 before I killed the first ankheg ;) ). The party was a multi player party though, and I reloaded only once IIRC. I had two tanks, two mages and two missile attackers.

I went back to the Inn to get some sleep a couple of times too. It was hard, but doable. It must be harder with a non-multi party though

The first time I made it through to the FAI, after I rested up, I decided to go exploring. I exited off the map to the east. We take a few steps, and in a few brief seconds, we are blasted out of existance by the Black Talon. I had a resentment for quite some time and vowed horrible revenge. Ever since then I take much pleasure incinerating them with massive fire damage. Gotta make sure they don't use any of MY ice arrows. Sweet.
