To be honest, all you need is to boost AC and cast Chaotic Commands on one warrior type. Have them clean out the whole place by themselves (for extra durability, if you have potions of genius, drink one when you take too many hits). If you have enough Chaotic Command spells, buff the entire party with it, then send the AC-boosted tank in to block the enemies from the party. He melees, they shoot from range. The big things are to buff AC so you do not get hit in the first place, protect against psionics, and take them out quick.

Maybe I have some diff version of the game (or the Mordenkainen's Sword spell itself ) but in my game even single Mordy's sword could last against a room full of mind flayers. Eradicating them all in the end (haste it to get better timing)

And I do have all the patches/Baldurdash fixes on. Whatsup?

I find the easiest way to clean out a room is to have someone go in with both Chaotic commands and prot. from magical weapons on them, because port. from magical weapons stops the intelligence drain... which is quite helpfull .
Unfortunately this only works best if you have a f/m... or a wizard with tensors tranformation

What is Ctrl+D - it is a key combination. Read the next if you wanna cheat.
(spoilers)
!!! DANGER !!! cheats
Think twice - those can make your game boring.

read the powerusers.txt or similar in the SoA directory. There is an explanation of how to run the game in debug mode (there is a comment there with smiling face). After runing the game in debug mode you can use certain keycombinations for certain 'cheating'. One of this is Ctrl + D. First you should have at least one free place in your party and then if you point an enemy with the mouse and if you click Ctrl + D then he'll become your party member and you can see everything about him. Cheats can also be enabled with CLUAConsole - search through the forum and you'll find out. You can also search for Ctrl+D.

IMHO the key combination for forcing a critter to join your party is Ctrl-Q rather than Ctrl-D. I remember using Q (checked some monsters' stats... speaking statue in Temple Ruins is an example )

I apologize.
Yes the combination is Ctrl+Q. Thank you TaSSaDaR.

Many posters here have been extolling the virtues of a low, low Armor Class for the person that you're sending to go melee the Mind Flayers. Don't worry about AC, worry about Saving vs. Spells. A good AC will protect you from most of the damage from the Umber Hulks, but you're not worrying about them. AC is near-useless against Mind Flayers, as they have crappy THAC0 anyway--they can only hit you on a Critical Hit, and of course your AC isn't worth a damn against Criticals. If you really want to be protected from the INT drain, use Mirror Image or PfMW.
