Im still undecided...
Strongest options right now are:
· Wizard slayer -> thief : i can get awesome MR with this guy and Carsomyr, and the UAI overrides all ws restrictions. Anyway it would take long till i get it, *AND* im unsure whether the high MR would make it for the poor THACO ill probably have. Also no Whirlwind
· Kensai -> mage : after all, everybody is so happy with this one... must be good
· Wizard slayer using bows : That was a great idea... only problem i would have is that im a equipment maniac, this guy would make me grab my hair and tear it out.

Bah... someday... ill decide... i guess...

The Wizard Slayer with bows works really well. I tried that on accident once.

My first time doing Twisted Rune, the guy who talks to you when you first walk in somehow appeared on the table in the middle of the room and no one could hit him with melee weapons. Since it was my first time doing that quest, I wasn't sure if that was normal or not... so I had all my people wack away at his projected image when it appeared(at least that's what I assume it was) except for my wizard slayer. No one had proficiencies in bows at that point, and I figured her STR THACO bonuses would make up for the penalty. So I gave her a bow, and I think I tried a sling too since all my spellcasters were lobbing spells and weren't using their slings. So as soon as he appeared when his PI disappeared, I'd shoot a few times and pretty soon he was dead. Anyway, WS with range weapons did pretty well against the guy, and once he was dead... that was it. No other monsters appeared or anything. So naturally I reloaded and tried again. ANYWAY, point being, after that I gave my WS's next few PROF points to bows and the rest of the game got a LOT easier.

It's all about how patient you are. I just beat ToB with a party of 6, headed by a WS->Thief, Levels 24/28. 5 Fighter HLAs and 5 Thief HLAs was pretty skimpy, but it was enough. My innate MR (no items) was 51%, and my THAC0 was -8 in my main hand, -8 in my off hand. Boo ya.

(The THAC0 calculated assumes that I'm using unenchanted Bastard Swords, Long Swords or Flails--I had Grandmastery in all 3.)

The EXP required to reach Level 25 Thief is 3.3 million--and Watcher's Keep gives approximately 2 million.
