This is the Cheetah/Dio symbiote, calling in from Brighton...... Hello IW world!! Regarding groups using fear and ignorance to get people to listen to their cause – I really haven’t a clue what you are talking about here. You would have to quote some specific examples for this to make any sense to me. What kind of cause? What are they getting out of it? Do you mean things like climate change? (now accepted as being human driven by scientists and governments all over the world, except for a few nutters like Lee Raymond who shout their views given half a chance – and Exxon’s money.... ), the rate at which the Amazon rainforest is diminishing? the rate at which fish stocks are being fished out? the amount of waste in our rivers and seas? the damage being done to rivers, not to mention soil, by some of our farming methods? the extinction of thousands of species of animal and bird? the amount of chemicals in our food and general environment? the ruin of natural habitats all over the earth? the fact that there are far less birds, butterflies, bees and other wild creatures due to the diminution in their habitat (this is a huge problem in the UK, and one that is generally acknowledged....) So, which of these problems are imaginary, in your view? (Maybe we should start a thread on this.) I have been a Greenpeace activist for some time – btw, being an activist means doing something about a situation, i.e. taking action. That is the definition of an activist. People who ‘sit on their asses spouting at those of us who are actually doing something’ as you so elegantly put it, are NOT activists. Ok? They are 99% of the population – at least, they are in the UK. If I had a pound for every person who’s sat and told me all the problems we have, and then got in their car to drive off to the supermarket to buy their heavily packaged goods, I’d be a rich woman. Unlike most, I walk it like I talk it, mate. I’m a bicycle riding, re-use and recyling, second hand goods buying, vegan subscriber to green energy. The earth is just fine. Well, I like the way you say that dude. So full of confidence. How do you know? Have you travelled a lot? Have you seen smokey mountain in the Philippines? Have you compared the number of birds and butterflies in the UK, with the number there were 10 or 20 years ago? Have you seen the fishing boats coming in in the north of England with hardly any fish, compared with what there once was? (The fishermen are NOT happy, oh no gollum, not happy at all.....) Have you stood on Brighton beach and watched the yellow foam come in off the grey sea? Have you seen how fast the rainforest is being felled? Do you know how much of the Amazon still stands, compared with what there was as recently as five years ago? It’s shocking, I can assure you. Development is increasing at a rapid rate, with the amount of space reserved for non human species, both animal and plant life, decreasing daily. Activists are concerned, in the main, to bring mainstream attention to these problems, first of all, and secondly, to actually DO something about them. I do not denigrate the work you yourself do, it is important also – everyone has their part to play, and everyone’s part is different. But please do not dismiss the work that activists do. Just a few words about Greenpeace – the group was originally formed ‘to bear witness’ and that is still its main function, although it has taken that further as the years go by and the situation becomes worse. Re animal rights and veganism – well, I have Dio sitting right next to me here, who himself grew up on a farm. (I didn’t, by the way. I am a cheetah, and cheetah’s don’t live on farms, they rollick and frollick about in the jungle, ocassionally visiting a village for purposes of pure pleasure, sort of like a night on the town.... Yum.) Anyway, Dio says that quite a lot that was inhumane went on on his father’s farm, and does on most farms. Perhaps yours is a very special farm?? What did you raise?? Was it a small farm? Did you not use any intensive farming methods? What kind of numbers of cattle/poultry did you have? What about milking methods? Are we talking recently, or a long time back? I have done a lot of research on intensive farming methods, in relation to poultry, cattle, pigs, and so on. What I have read has sickened me. Also in relation to dairy farming. If you don’t believe that this goes on, then why not go and visit a chicken farm. Or maybe the place where chickens are slaughtered. In Britain, the chickens are hung upside down on a kind of conveyer belt, in their thousands. The conveyor belt moves and the chickens heads pass though water, which is charged with an electrical current. This stuns them, in theory, however, if they are not the standard size, i.e. too short, they are not stunned, and pass through the next part of the process fully concious. Next, their throats are cut with an automatic knife. Again, if the chicken is not standard size, the eyes may be cut, or the breast. The bird may not be dead at the end of this process. Once the cut has been made, the birds are then dipped in a vat of scalding water, to loosen the feathers for plucking. Any bird which has not been stunned or cut properly, will still be alive at this stage. Many millions of birds go through this process each year. It is the norm, not some illegal horror scenario. Prior to this, they live in appalling conditions, which I will not go into here, however, if anyone is interested, believe me, I have all the details. BTW, this is not me ramming my opinions down your throat. I long ago got over the rage and disbelief I felt when I told people this stuff and they just shrugged their shoulders. My mom eats meat, and I love her. Some of my friends do (although not many, I must admit) and I love them too. Just wanted to explain why I’m vegan. By the way, here’s Dio on the subject of vegan food....... (Dio the meat eater, just wanted to make that clear ![]() I had assumed that Vegan food must be quite boring, but Cheetah has shown me I was quite mistaken about that. Yum, yum ![]() ![]() Cheetah again, waving tail triumphantly, whilst sticking small cheetah nose defiantly in air....... ![]() (Idiot extremists – hmm..... I guess the idiot part all depends on where you’re standing....... ![]() ![]() ------------------ |

Hi DioCheetah...hmmm...so...if you're part pumpkin, and part Cheetah...what the heck species/genus does that make you?
![]() Excellent post! Wish I was feeling up to answering it. Its about 4AM on Sunday here and I've been up since about 7AM Saturday. So, I'm off to bed. But, rest assured, that I will be back later to answer. In the mean time, you two have a good day/night(depending on when you read this). Night PS: Hmmm...Vegan Chef School?? You said the magik word...Chef. I am a professional chef and I'm always interested in new recipes. So...if I may issue a small challenge. Convince me! Send me some of your recipes and I will cook and eat them. I'm always up for new experiences. I highly doubt you will ever convince me to give up red meat. But hey...stranger things have happened. Although, in fact, I had venison tonight and it was YUMMY!!!!!(Sorry if that grosses you out, but I'm still salivating remembering it. And, before I get yelled at, remember...I *said* I was a hunter. And a very responsible one. I only hunt in season, only take the amount I am allowed, and use all of the deer, including the hide and most of the other bits. Trophy hunters and poachers piss me off too.) Anyway...I would love to try a couple of your recipes. May I? You can send them to Nachtrafe@hotmail.com if you dont want to take up alot of space posting them. ------------------ "In Memorium of those who are gone, and all those that bought our freedom with their hearts blood!" Snicker.. good thing it IS virtual because a kitty without meat is not alive long in rl! I have encountered some vegans who attempt to force their way of eating on their pets and while a dog can survive on a vegetarian diet a cat cannot. LOL.. now I never would have even thought of this subject in relation to this board if not for you! ![]() ![]() Glad the weather is good, are you seeing anything in particular today? Or is this the day you return? Hope you have a good trip back and lots of souvenirs and memories! ![]() Eww.... recipes........ I don't really have any, as such. I make things how they come, if you know what I mean....... However, I could write down what I do, a couple of times, maybe? (Can you get seaweed? And smoked tofu?) Just a point - the kind of hunter you seem to be - I can handle that a hell of a lot better than intensive farming, dude! Although I'm not keen on killing animals full stop, I have much less problem with people humanely killing an animal that has led a healthy and natural life in freedom. (As long as the killing is humane...) However, the type of hunting where animals are bred up in captivity specifically to be hunted, and then let loose so that so called 'hunters' go kill them at practically point blank range - that is sick. I've seen it on TV when I was in America - also a documentary here. So it does go on. I am also totally against fox hunting! Well, actually, lets face it - I am never going to cheer anyone who hunts. But you do it your way, and I do it mine, I guess......... We're all different..... ![]() ------------------ |

I definitely agree with you about the canned hunts (as they are called). They ARE sick practices and should be stopped. First time I saw that I was sick for days. I'm not an avid fan of hunting, either, but I have come to see it as acceptable if done according to the law and as you say, humanely. My own family has been involved in fishing and deer hunting since long before I was born. I've had venison on occasion (kind of 'gamey' for my tastes but ok I guess) and know that my cousins etc did use as much as possible of the animal and only hunted mature animals in season. SC? A question for you... you seem opposed to all killing of animals on priniciple but yet you chose a predator and carnivore obligate as your sig symbol! Did you do that consciously? Or do you just like the big cats? ![]() ![]() Cloudy ------------------ ![]() ![]() Raindancer of the Laughing Hyenas Clan CloudDragon of the OHF Storm-Queen Raven's Cloud StormCloud of the Black Knight: Heart Mind Soul Forever "To sleep, perchance to dream..." |
