Yes, playing with the program can be quite addictive
 Works with quite large graphics, too (with varying results); tried it on my gold dragon icon, for example

The format I use in anything I do graphics wise is the MS-Paint that comes with windows, aka BMPs. MS-Paint doesn't save in any other format.
I just don't have the skills to make it look good like Uatu does -SilentThief

The XP (and Vista) version of Paint saves (just select the format) in PNG (and other formats) - this really helps me a lot, since I don't have to use other programs to change the BMP format to PNG this way.
If you are using an older version... yeah, it just saves as BMP.
