Sounds like the ports that your VPN program is using is by default blocked. If you know which port is is using you should be able to add the VPN software as a trusted program and open the port as well in the firewall settings.

If you have any further problems let me know and I will ask one of the tech guys over in the consumer product department.

You should be able to remove it without removing Nis 2007. They should be listed seperated in the Add/Remove programs.
