I voted "maybe", but now that I've read the responses, make that a "no". I thought that since it was possible to now purchase SoA and ToB together in the same box, people would no longer play SoA without ToB. But, unlike BG and its expansion and NWN and its expansions, ToB drops WAAAYYYY too many plot spoilers for SoA. (I'm still not forgiving the clodpole who let slip the ToB bad guy on the SoA board with no spoiler warnings whatsoever. I've also read posts on the BG1 board by BG2 players who don't realize that part of the plot of BG1 is figuring out the identity of someone revealed in BG2's opening sequence. But that's neither here nor there. )

I beg to differ, Pirengle. Although I agree that Throne of Bhaal gives a new twist to the whole saga, but I don't really see it as a total spoiler paradise. Sure it elaborates a little more about your heritage, but nothing out of the ordinary.

But apparently I stand alone in that matter.

I am largely undecided because although they would contain spoilers, the TOB forum does have very few posts.

Perhaps it would be an idea to merge them, but each question have a sort of "header" stating whether it is SOA or TOB. OR just "headers" for TOB posts and SOA posts remain the same. Just a suggetion as I can see that a mutual agreement will need to be found now that there ae definately two sides to this story.

I voted yes but now I think I have changed my mind. I suppose on thinking longer about it, it doesnt seem so appealing, I mean OK the ToB board isnt the busiest but most people get answers to there questions, and although it may be faster if they were merged I dont think its worth.

My reasoning is that all posts have titles explaining a bit about the post, so people know whether to enter it or not. Otherwise posts would be rather pointless. So even if you put ToB or SoA on front of your post title it could still give away some sort of spoilers. And there is also the newbie part of it.

There is also the fact that people generally stay away from Forums that they dont really know much about, they havent played the game, they havent finished it etc. So if the boards are merged some people wont be able to resist taking a peak at a ToB thread. Now this of course, is really there own fault, but it would be somewhat the mods fault for merging the boards.

There, thats my thoughts.

For what it's worth, I'd say NO, for all the reasons other people have already said. Plus, SOA is as much of a sequel to BG1 as TOB was to SOA. If you argue to combine boards, one could argue that the whole BG trilogy should be lumped together.

(Note: I'm NOT saying that this should be done)

The major arguement against the merge seems to be the possibility of inadvertant spoilers by "clodholes", namely the infamous "TOB NPC" and the TOB villain, that could be revealed during the course of threads on all kinds of different topics.

I think they should remain seperate. ToB spoilers would get in the way and ruin everything for gamers who haven't reached that point yet, since I get the feeling that things like quests, items and NPCs would leak into the SoA threads.

That definately wouldn't work since newbies wouldn't know about that rule. And to all of you members out there, honestly, how many of you have completely read the forum rules and the rules in the BG2 forum? I'm sure not all of you have, and lots of newbies won't either, so they'll just drop the bomb like that. Or you could forget to put the heading...

I voted maybe. It would be practical saving costs on bandwidth etc but I can't help but feel some people will end up being spoiled. One think I was thinking of was to have two BG2 boards one for general BG2 discussion and one for spoiler discussion/help. This would mean people could talk about both TOB and SOA in the same board but would avoid spoilers unless required. Of course that would mean there would be two boards just like now so might be fairly pointless. But at least TOB questions would be likely to be answered quicker and newbies wouldn't be as likely to get spoiled.
