Any of you thinking to raid the super market or any other store, better forget it unless you're first. Remember the pictures of New Orlenes. Those were hit within hours of the huricane.

Yes; there are several varieties of the basic formula.

Electricity? Well, I know how to make batteries, too, so I wouldn't have to worry too much about that. They might not be the strongest ones, but they would deliver electricity.

Making a fire? Yes, I can do that too, either with primitive tools or, by raiding any hardware/medical supply store, using a magnifying glass and some sunlight. I suppose you could also beat some malleable metal into a parabolic shape and polish it, and then your reflector would double as a cooker, too.

I wouldn't be much use in your doomsday scenario, Felix. I assume that your answers are all yes. I'm studying electrical engineering, which may not be much use if all the power goes off, but the skills I’m learning are one hell of a lot more useful to today's *real life* society, and will make me a lot of money to boot I'm perfectly happy not to know the intricacies of rubbing two boy scouts together to get fire...

Actually, we used to have an open fire in our old house, and I did get quite good at building and lighting a fire. It got a bit draughty though, the secret was to strike three matches at once if you diddn't want them to go out.

Generally, yes.
2. Do you have a real fireplace?
In my house you mean? I have a gas one...
3. Could you cook from an open flame?
Yep.
4. Can you swab, lube, load, pack, trim, and fire a black powder gun?
Nope
5. Do you own a black powder gun?
Never even held a gun before
6. Could you dress, skin, quarter, salt and cure a hog? Cow? Deer?
Nope
7. Gulp, could you make it without the internet?
Yep
8. Can you use a map, protractor and compass?
Can use a map and a compass, doubt I'd need a protractor, if I knew how to use one.

Why would I need to know that?
10.Can you run a trot line?
I'm sure I could figure it out.

1. Can you start a fire?
Yep!
2. Do you have a real fireplace?
That depends on what you mean by "real". I have a fireplace in the house and a pit outside on the patio.
3. Could you cook from an open flame?
Definitely
4. Can you swab, lube, load, pack, trim, and fire a black powder gun?
No
5. Do you own a black powder gun?
No, but I know my neighbour has hunting rifles...
6. Could you dress, skin, quarter, salt and cure a hog? Cow? Deer?
No, but again my neighbour could, or my brother/his boss (butchers)
7. Gulp, could you make it without the internet?
Sure, as long as I can back-up the entire internet on my computer for posterity
8. Can you use a map, protractor and compass?
Indeed
9. Do you know at least what grid square you live in?
Uh, no.
10.Can you run a trot line?
Trot line??
11.Could you drink pure water from the melting of the morning frost as opposed to 'bottled' water?
Yeah, why wouldn't I? It's pure as you said, right? If not you could just make a solar still
12.If the electricty stop flowing, you could not recharge your cell phone!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! NO MORE CRAPPY QUALITY PICTURES AND IRRELEVANT PHONE CALLS!
