Not to derail this thread more than I already have, but I find Firefox to be slow.

IE loads much faster, has much greater compatibility and security problems are non-existant if you practice safe computing.

Of course, I don't visit those, er...adult sites so security really isn't a problem.

Best advice I've seen posted!

I have heard people that are not afraid to admit that Firefox was the worst thing they ever did to their computer, and went back to IE afterward.

Besides, if Firefox keeps growing in popularity, we'll start hearing more and more complaints about its security and other problems. Right now, its just a popular thing to hate Microsoft.

I do not specifically hate Microsoft. I dislike many Microsoft products as I find them of poor quality. I do not personally know anyone who has switched back to IE after starting to use an alternative. You have heard of them. They are that rare. I have heard of pygmees and tribes living in the jungle.
As far as I am concerned many Microsoft products hide their fundamental flaws behind a giant screen of superficial flaws. You never really see the rotten core, because there is always a neat little fix for the specific problem you are having.
I'll gladly admit that some pages loads faster in IE while other load faster in Firefox. However if I happen to be on a site that loads a bit slower on Firefox it matters little, because hey I have tapped browsing.
I have used both products and not just "tried them out". I won't go back to IE. Not unless they change their attitude on a number of important issues such as compatibility to standards, object-oriented programming for scripts and numerous other small issues (something similar to XUL would be nice).
If the day dawns were Firefox is larger than IE AND (this is highly speculative) suffers equally from security issues I may have to reconsider on that issue. But that is NOT the case at present.

Hopefully it is clear that I have stated all of this as an opinion. It is not my intention to make anybody start using Firefox.

I'll leave this subject alone for now. Hopefully we can agree that consensus is hardly posible so there is really no point in discussing it any further.

Zebo- Not too long ago there was a spamster right here on our very own forum? Anywhos, I just happened to have been booted in WinXp and running IE when I "checked" his crediebtals!? That 'check' would have cost me dearly if I did not have the firewall that I use. Secondly, when I checked back with Opera, there was no 'direct' attack. Later, I went back under Linux and FF, and there was no trace of an ambush whatsoever. Clearly, irregardless of your 'personal' routine, an immenient attack can be counducted from even a non-adult site. Or even from a link right here on our forum.

I do run FF under Linux, and really have grown used to Opera under WinXp, but, and luckily, there are only a few, and becoming fewer weekly, things that only IE can do. Like my place of business online time card, and a few banking establishments, can only be acknoledged by the 'special' script security with-in the security of IE, go figure!

All I'm saying is that with the number of people using MS products, there must be an equal number of people hacking them.

Given the time, exploits can be found in every other piece of software but there just isn't enough people using Linux, Opera, Firefox, et. al. to make it worth their while.

I run a software and a hardware firewall, run fulltime AV and Spyware software and I have NEVER, repeat NEVER had a problem and I've been using computers since the TRS-80, Apple II, VIC-20 and Atari 800.

Let's hope the nefarious no-gooder is no longer here.

That puts you in the top 2.5% of ALL, internet users. The other 97.5% are basically un-protected, and are happy with that.

Who hates Microsoft? I'm not enough of a geek to hate any software company, I just like Firefox because A)It's got tabs B)A pretty cool pop-up blocker C) Adblock, which is an additional download and is really cool, and D) the fact that I'm told it's safer, at least for now.

I agree that if it ever is used as much as IE, it will probably be hacked as much as well.

IMHO, IE is still the most compatible and stable browser.
