Go for the girl. It's useless to let it pass, and when you get in a long term relationship (if indeed that is what this would result in) you learn that your friends kinda take a back seat. This guy obviously just isn't for her, and she likes you, so why let the opportunity pass? You said you would let him pursue her if he wanted, and he said the same. Well if you really would, then surely he really would too. So just go for it.

Question Mark

Was I ever that young?

If you like this particular girl, then tell her how you feel and ask her if she would like to go out some time. If she says yes, then you and your friend will find a way to remain friends; if not, then perhaps he wasn't truly a friend after all. If she says no, then shake off the disappointment and keep your options open.

If its any comfort, I was in the same situation and it all worked out fine. One of my close friends had split with his girlfriend who I ended up going out with (after asking if he minded). They then got back together eventually, but through the whole time it really wasn't a problem for us. I think women get a lot more emotionally involved over things like this - you'll probably find that you and your friend will carry on more or less as normal. We promised each other that we were too good a pair of friends to let a girl come in-between us and that seemed to do the job Just don't bring it up in conversation

Good point. My mind's made up.

I'm getting the impression that Mr Red is growing colder towards me, but if I'm being mature enough to not treat him any differently and he is, than thats his problem.

Sigmar if you want my honest opinion, Mrs White is all yours. She must know that you are close to Mr. Black and she would not have told him that she didn't like Mr. Red but "not to tell anyone" if she didn't want that information to get back to you. Mr. Red sounds IMO like a player and you, on the other hand, sound like a genuine sincere guy who is just a little shy.

So...ask Mrs. White out, I am not a really a betting man but I would lay odds that she will say yes. You will be happy, as you now have the girl you have been mooning over for some time, she will be happy as she has wound up with you and not some player whom she has said she dosen't really like anyway and your "friend" Mr. Red may or may not be a sore loser but either way I garantee that he will be out at the bar with some new woman next week.

Just my two cents, good luck I'm rooting for ya

I found out she likes me.

I asked her out, she said yes.

I can now die happy.

Thank you all.

Cool, a happy ending.

And maybe now we can dispense with the colour-coding? It's giving me a headache.
