Of course, but as it's not my kid I'll feel free to do an economic analysis of the thing. I want dollars to be spent in the ways that would have the most overall impact.

We're the richest country in the world, and this is one of the things I don't at all mind my hard earned money going towards. Would be great if we spent some more on programs to prevent these types of things from even happening.

Fair enough -- your take on it. But what does the "amber alert" system really help with? Snatch and grabs? Not likely. I'll bet you the VAST majority of the time it's a parent who kidnaps the kid to another state. That usually is easy to solve -- you just go to where the parent was most likely to go, arrest them, and take the kid. The true kidnappings -- done by strangers -- are probably less than 10% of the amber alerts issued, I'm willing to bet.
