I was using the ball mouse for a long time but I was sick of cleaning the damn thing, plus the roller gets worn out quite a lot and caused the mouse to be less responsive over time. Finally I got myself a Logitech optical mouse and suffice to say, I am damn happy with it.

Your concern over the misunderstanding engendered by this thread's title is only exceeded by a worrying obsession with my foibles.
Just for your information, there are no active mouse balls attached to my equipment - I've gone optical
