Hi There and welcome.
I found that being a fighting class as my main character helps you learn the game if your are new to it. Hacking and slashing is easy to do and it will allow you to keep your main character alive while you learn the other classes. After you feel confident with the different styles of play and types of characters you can play then make your decision. My 2 cents |

I also chose mage/thief/fighter, not realizing the slow level ups when I started my game. I'm at the end of SoA and I love my char, I like having chars that can be a "jack of all trades", so when you get ambushed, you can handle any situation. The multiclass also allows you to pick a party as you go along that fits best for you. I recommend it for a new player.
