Spanking Illegal In Massachusetts?

All I know is everytime I have felt like spanking my kids it was always because I was frustrated or angry at them. Not good enough reasons for me to hit them. They are all grown now and never been spanked. Two of them said they will spank thier kids and one says no way. I would rather see couples go through parenting courses than outlaw spanking however. There are way too many parents out there who have no Idea what a child needs to succeed.
I read somewhere that 11 of the 12 states with the lowest crime rate all have outlawed capital punishment.

Spanking in anger can certainly be an issue. Here's the approach to spanking my father took. He'd send me away to my room and tell me I was going to get a spanking. After 10 minutes or so he would come in, tell me this was punishment for X act, and I knew beforehand this would be the punishment.

I think he was wise to take the "cool down" time, and I think it was the best practice you can take -- IF you choose to spank.

Of course, the plan all goes to hell in a handbasket, if you use the "cool down" time to do shots of grain alcohol and get your anger up. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Why,did that take the sting off the spanking? And how young were you when you started drinking?

Yeah, that's it. I'd sneak shots out of little airline liquor bottles and then try to put the bizzatch-slap on my dad when he came in to spank me. It never worked, but at least I never *felt* the pain. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

There have been moves to servery limit the defence of 'reasonable chastisement' here too. Making anither offence would do nothing in our country, as this defence would still cover the offence, common and aggravated assaults already make such action illegal.

I wasn't smacked often, but one of the times was when i was sticking my fingers in plug sockets, i was told not to do it (WHat were they thinking?! [img]smile.gif[/img] ) but i continued, thinking it was great fun, so i was told what it was for and inever did it again.
