They may, Azred, but doesn't that make everyone generally more vulnerable, having large portions of the population running their machines with loads of viruses puts everyone at greater risk?

I wonder how many people know what to do when their virus scanner is incapable of eliminating a virus.

I see your point, but that's like saying that everyone who doesnt invest in driver safety deserves to have an accident, or that people that dont take the time to learn how to protect their home deserve to be robbed

It can be taken at an extra cost but not only would it allow people to be more aware but it could cut down on the technical support calls to places like Dell & HP.
The best method for this would be an instruction CD-ROM/DVD cheaper for them to produce, and distribute and it would save everyone alot of headaches. Excellent suggestion.

Yes, it is like saying that. Sometimes I am a little harsh, but computer and/or house protection is an individual choice.

The term "virus" originated because those programs spread like biological diseases. We wouldn't let someone infected with smallpox walking around the shopping mall, so why let someone with the latest crud around on the Internet?

Most people I know of don't bother to put some kind of protection into their computer. My good friend who loves to visit interesting sites don't have any kind of protection. So I wonder what lurks inside his computer. When ask why he don't put those protection he said too bothersome, need to update always and it also make computer very slow. When ask if he not afraid of being hack. He said he got nothing to be hacked.

I'm fairly well informed and have anti-viurs/spyware programmes etc, know how to use them and can remove them my-self if need be. But i still get one or two every few months, so i think it would be difficult for those that are not as well informed, as more and more people are getting pcs and broadbad mainy for internet use, especially older people who have no grown up with the technology, so i do sympathise.

While he may not be worried about his information being stolen he could face criminal charges if his computer were hijacked for criminal activity, ie someone taking it over to perform hacking on legitimate sites (the attack would come from his IP, not the hacker's) DOS and DDOS attacks are a problem as well. A fair amount of computer security is covering your own ass, and making sure that you still own your computer at the end of the day.
