Im still confused as to why Canada has a military. It owuld seem wiser to me..to form police units to take on those anti-terror jobs that were discussed.
(keep in mind I have many Canadian Military types as friends) |

Canada needs a military because we don't always have the same interest as the US and sometimes if you need something done you have to do it yourself. It is also part of being a sovereign nation. Canada also needs a military to protect its resources and sovereignty, Denmark, and Spain come to mind.
Why does Australia need a military? [ 01-07-2005, 12:28 PM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

Ok Pritchke I wasn't trying to irk Canadians...Im saying that Canada of all nations probably needs it's military least. They don't have any apparent desire to "project Power" anywhere but at home....and the interests being different from the USA...well that has nothing really to do with it..Canada isn't going to go to war against the USA. No nation on earth would try to invade Canada and take its resources...A. becuase the US would not stand for it. B. (and this is the least weighty of my arguments) the UN wouldn't allow it. C. An internal Police force can protect your resources.
I don't think Denmark or Spain has the Navy to make an invasion of Canada likely. Australia on theother hand is a Maritime nation and depends on ocean shipping lanes for much of its needed goods....so they NEED a Navy at the very least. It just seems to me that the Pragmatic Canadians could save themselves a ton of tax money by eliminating the "military" that really isn't needed. I mean what do they do all year? What has the Canadian Military done in the last 5 years? 10?.......wouldn't it be more reasonable to put that money into medical care and schools and welfare programs? |

Bosnia Afghanistan Haiti A few spots in Africa. It's funny that Canada doesn't jump on board for Iraq II and our other efforts are forgotten. But alot of American efforts are forgotten as you have been quick to remind everyone so it doesn't surprise me that Canada's are forgotten as well. Canada has a strong military tradition and a proud one. One that should continue. And besides.. if as you say we don't need a military and we eventually deep sixed it all together.. i'm sure the next day you would be complaining about Canadians getting a free ride from the States. |

[/QUOTE] Brief Mathmatics lesson for you Djin..... 2005 - 10 = 1995 Umm I did mention time frames 0f 5 and 10 years. What exactly did Canadians do in Haiti and when? And more importantly do you mean to tell me you were out protesting that Canada should spend money on these ventures? and that you are actually Pro-Military spending? Scroll to the section labelled Canada’s contribution since February 2004 RCMP Civilian Police Peacekeeping Operations in Haiti And to the last part. Yes I was and still am advocating that Canada should spend much much more money on their military and legitimate military ventures and that I am pro military spending in Canada. I voted for the Conservatives in our last federal election because of the military spending issue alone. |

Why does Canada need a military? Also, if Quebec seperates, we need a way to take it back.
