There's your solution, Sir T -- if we ignore the topic, maybe it will just *go away.* Self-policing, it's a nice thing.

No offense General, sir. We're annoyed with the topic, not the poster.

No offense taken Timber. I didn't know much about the subject being an ignorant Brit but on seeing some extraordinary stats I thought I would voice my opinion.

Do what I (and many others) do when it comes to tired topics... Ignore them.

Did you know that 95% of statistics are made up on the spot?

I wonder if anyone has anything more to say on this topic.

yes, for el general...

there are three kinds of lies in this world: lies, damned lies, and statistics. ~Mark Twain

I would also like to point out that the first "statistic" you quoted is deceptive. NOTE: it references death by violent crime, it does not say ANYTHING about guns.

Second, i HIGHLY doubt the validity of children being TWELVE times more likely to die of gun wounds in the united states than ANYWHERE else in the world. Think palestine people or bosnia... HELLO? does that statistic seem to make sense to anybody? I'd be more convinced if the statistic said "kids going to inner city high schools are twelve times more likely to be shot than in other first world countries."

But then again, thats not an issue of gun control, thats an issue of bad parenting. we need metal detectors and parenting control. oh, and media control... its ridiculous that by the time a child turns 18 theyve seen an estimated 1500 violent deaths on television or in movies.

Sorry, I did not make it clear that the deaths in the first statistic were gun related deaths. But they are as the statistic is under that heading. I would also like to point out that this information comes from an education resource and not a newspaper or the like. The fact it is part of my education would lead me to believe that it would be true.

I can say it like this....my friend Janus went from Denmark to USA to study for one year...he was the target of no less than 8 EIGHT drive by shootings...the open access to guns create more violence than in any other country in the world...EVEN russia is peaceful compared to USA

I believe that post increased that number.

General, if you narrow down the definitions of non-military violence you would probably get a more accurate comparison. Right now car accidents etc. could be in that category. Angles are everywhere.
