Is getting the on-line maps with the names of the buildings considered useing a walkthrough. If it is then I guess I am guilty after all.

I don't think looking at a map is a 'walkthrough'. By walkthrough I mean a step by step guide as to where to go ...what to do...what to get...who to kill...stuff like that. I think it does take the fun out of it for me although unlike Lavindather I don't think its 'stupid'(...I CAN'T STAND INTOLERANCE!!! )

I thought that was what you meant. In that case no you are not alone. If I get stuck I find a chat group or a forum to get advice from. I can safly say WE ARE NOT ALONE!!!!!

Walkthroughs take away that thrill of finding things out for yourself! Ok, you will make mistakes, screw up, have to start over sometimes, but its all part of the pleasure!
I got badly stuck in a game once and didn't know about game forums or anything, so I did a web search on the game and found a walkthrough site. Nothing else, just a walkthrough. So I started to go through it to find out where I had gone wrong. Ok. Found out. But did I just walk out of it? NO! I read the lot. And vowed never to do it again, lol! Spoiled the rest of the game. It was one of the Tombraider games, I think.

I never use walkthroughs but sometimes read them.
The point is that I read walkthroughs for the games I have played but disliked them and dropped. Games that are famous and a lot of people enjoy them - like Planescape. It was so boring to me despite the interesting story-line - so I put it aside and read walkthrough instead of playing. Of course, no guides for the games I play. As for BG (esp.BG2) - playing it with guide would be barbarity to me since I love these games so much.
But... To use walkthrough or not - it is up to personal tastes and interests, there can not be right or wrong way, or some "stupid" way either! Each of us plays games for fun and amusement - so while you enjoy it - use whatatever you want
