Choose a mirror server which is closest to you.

Mirror servers are severs that hosted files/programs for downloading and usually 90% of the listed servers are not owned by the software developer/author.

Some freeware developers do make use of mirror servers because the author/company simply cannot afford to have a high bandwidth connection to support all the downloads.

Now that I have it downloaded...

How do I work it?

I tried the mount c c:\ like it said, but it said something about c:\ not existing. The hard drive is the c: drive.

Thanks for helping me!

By default, the program only starts with a virtual drive, which is drive Z.

To be able to acess to your actual drive, add the following lines below the [autoexec] in the file DOSBox.conf

Example:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount C C:\
mount E E:\

Thus, I can now acess my drive C and E. Feel free to add any drives of your choice.

Also you might want to check out the thread below concerning the usage of DOSBox.

I read the other post, and I have the c drive, but how do I run a program not on a cd? It doesn't recognize "run", and loadhigh (the closest thing to run I found in the help menu) seems to need another command after itself.

The file I want to run is: c/tyrian2000/tyrian2k

Dosbox should come with more instructions than it does...

LOL, are you not familiar with DOS command? (DOSBox creator(s) assumed that people who run this program should have sufficient knowledge in DOS command, hence the lack of documentation on this part) Okay, another example:

(after DOSBox has been started)

Z:\>C: (enter)
C:\>cd tyrian~1 (enter)
C:\tyrian~1\>tyrian2k (enter)

It will run tyrian, but... yes the dreaded BUT. Tyrian 2000 will run very sluggish in WinXP. It will only run at reasonable speed under DOS or Win95/98SE. DOSBox will not help either.

This is a known fact and I can confirm this because I have Tyrian 2000 and I only manage to get it to run (with sound) at resonable speed on Windows 98SE.

I haven't really used DOS in about 12 years, when I was 3, and we didn't have windows, or some programs wouldn't work on windows. I can't remember which. I think I'd use run and dir/w, but that was all I knew how to do. I'm not sure about the run part.

Well, if dosbox doesn't run tyrian any faster, I'll have to try to find a way to work my cd burner program to put Tyrian's sound file on my 98 pc and get the sound working.

(All previous attempts at burning a cd, or even formatting one, have ended in failure. The cd tray locks itself whenever I put in a blank cd, so if I decide to format it, I can't destroy the cd by opening the drive. The problem is, you have to be able to get the cd out somehow. I always end up having to turn off the computer and stick a paperclip into the cd drive to force it open. Formatting the cd caused it to do about 90% in a half hour, and do 0% more for the next two hours, at which point, I flipped the switch on the surge protector, since the formatting could not be stopped. Or, at least, not when it reaches 90%.)
