oh, duh. that's why. you need spell lvl + 10 in wisdom to be able to cast the spell. heal is 6, so 16. i have 14. i was able to use a cure light wounds scroll so the scroll option was there for that. oh well, will have to sort something out in regards to that ability.
thanks me for the quick reply

I like this game. Very nice graphics, some tough battles but all were doable and many were fun. I wasn't expecting a deep story, so I wasn't let down. I liked the crafting skills especially. I think I encountered 2 bugs pre-patch and the CO8 unofficial patch cleared those up til official patch came along.

It also gave me a decent feel for how 3.5 ed rules would play out PnP, though I still won't budge from 2e.

I plan on playing again soon: (3rd time) an almost-all caster party with only a lone monk, cleric & druid for melee.

All and all I give it a 7 out of 10. Close on par with the IWD games.

is there any way to make npcs drop items. they're stupid enough to weigh themselves down with several suits of armour and then complain when they hit medium or heavy load. i'd read about filling their inventory slots with light items like potions or scribed scrolls but its too late for that now.
"take some of this stuff or i'll start chucking it." by all means do that, i'd take it off your hands but you won't let me. idiots

This game is terrible, to all those who say it's like PnP: It's not. PnP is fun and dynamic, this game's turn based combat is AGONZINGLY slow, the dialog is convulted, and the party creation system allows for no real RolePlaying- unlike Baldur's Gate, where my Paladin would try to convert Viconia to good, here, only good characters can gang up, neutral-the same, and ditto for evil. The map is WAY to detailed for any good, and does not allow for any notes on it, and the scroll speed is painfully slow. My conclusion? Any game that takes 10 minutes for a full party to kill a FROG isn't worth it.

well, i like it ..
and you can put notes on the map, there are note flags.

however, know of any good character editors? i rescued some people and then later in encountered some of their lackeys and was given a reward. in these two cases the unique item i was given failed to appear in my inventory. especially annoyed at missing out on a kick arse sword i was supposed to get. can i edit the game somehow to get what i deserved and was given..?

bah, stupid thing. it was an inventory prob. the wizard filled all his slots on receiving the badges and should have gotten the sword. it didn't end up on the ground. it would have been nicer if the rogue got the sword because that's who the knight was talking to and said would get it. reloaded, adjusted inventory. its all good now ..

yeah but I spent half an hour running around trying to find the *$@!% "farm just up the road", it would be better if the map just showed it when I entered the area.

now it's getting more stuffed. often it'll just pause for a few second or even many mintues. the music will keep going but nothing will move. it's happening more frequently now. once i left it for 30mins and it was still stuck - reboot. i'm not far from the end of the game but if this continues, i'll never finish it

Well I just started playing... I want to like it a lot, there is some very good elements in it, specially the Combat system (not as good as BG of course), but my main trouble with it is that the mouse is so unresponsive... I feel like I have to push the mouse hard to get it to move...

Also I havn't figure out how to see more detailed descriptions of items in the stores...

Oh and where can I download the CO8 patch...
