I have just finnished playing an Evil Party It isn't really worth it (I only did it to see the evil endings for throne of bhaal). heres a list of what I think are good and bad points of playing evil.

The Good:

- You Can get Sarevok in your party(TOB) Has very high stats and Death bringer assault(200 Damage)

- Alternate ending (TOB)

- There are some good evil only Items like Malla's Soul Stone.(TOB)

- You have the only Strait mage in the game (Edwin)

- You get to say some funny things.

- You can steal all the great equipment from the shops(Who cares if they are charging an arm and a leg for equipment whne you can just steal it)

The Bad:

- Most of the Good points require TOB

- Only 4 Evil NPC's in the Game (5 with TOB)

- lack of XP for doing Goody Goody quests

- Shops charge too much

I think, if you're going on to ToB that Hell tries to reward being an evil party. I think that stuff you get from the tears is much better if you're evil. (That's just me though.)

seriously tho If you want a d&d game by Bioware (same engine) then I suggest Planescape Torment, There is alot of really spiffy Items you can only get by being evil, there's even a book that gives you spells for committing evil against your own party, kill a party member, sell one into slavery, etc, and it is alot of fun

I agree, Planescape:Torment is great because you can finish the game any way you want. There is no reputation; you start out at Neutral and your actions determine your alignment. I always liked that better than the whole reputation thing.

Anyway, contrary to some peoples' beliefs, evil partys DO NOT have to have a bad reputation. A prime example of this was Sarevok in BG1. He was a well-respected part of the community in Baldur's Gate, and was seen as the person with the answer to the hostilities with Amn. However, he was really one of the people behind the whole thing, and was just milking public opinion to create a war that would make him a god. Thus, you don't have to act evil to be evil. Keep your rep in the neutral range of 8-10, and your party will be fine with it (in fact, the good aligned NPCs that you add to the party to feed to monsters will stay around longer that way).

Of course, this highlights why I don't like the rep system. An evil party, if they hide their intentions, should be able to raise their reputation to any level, as long as it serves their purpose. Why not have fools think you are something great; all the better to betray them when the time is right. Just make it harder to snow people the higher your rep goes (people pay more attention to you, so it is harder to hide your actions).
