Trying getting a sledgehammer and talk to the computer "persuasively". Try it again. If that fails, happy bashing
BTW, your name is slightly ironic for this problem. |

Hi all, I'm back to working on this annoying probloem again (sigh0) and thought I'd post an update.....
I've got Wiz8 version 1.2.4, installed directly from 1.2.4 version CDs. I'm running Windows XP version 2000, it has all the updates except Service Pack 2, which I can't install cuz apparently I don't have a valid registration key. I changed the Wiz8.exe compatibility to Windows 98/ME. I have an onboard sound card, fully updated GeForce2 vid card, standard crappy PacBell keyboard, Athlon 1.25 GHz CPU, and 512 MB RAM. I went to the "common problems" page, but it didn't have the exact error that I'm getting on it. I have DirectX 9, and I get the same developer error with OpenGL, DirectX 7, and MMx video settings. I have 800x600x32 selected in that section, and I've also tried 640x480x32. The exact error I'm getting says "Debug assertion in module "C:/Projects/Wizardry 8/Local Code/Strings.cpp line 82 failed: Expression {gppStringList} evaluates to false" This CD set HAS WORKED on a different computer....help! Let me know if you need any more info!! (I tried the CD drawer thing too and it didn;t work) |

Then that would rule out scratches (for the most part) and cd errors. Have you tried cleaning the cd rom drive?
