I think I messed up with my level 7 spells. I took Spell Trigger at level 14, Khelben's Warding Whip at level 15, Mordenkainen's Sword at level 17 and Project Image at level 22. I will get only one more level seven spell. Is Ruby Ray of Reversal the best choice or Finger of Death??
PS INSANE difficulty feels right!!! |

quote: I have Mordenkainen's Sword, Project Image, Spell Sequencer, Spell Turning, and Sphere of Chaos. If you already have Spell- strike, I would say go for Finger of Death. I use Breach or Spell- strike the majority of the time. I actually chose Spellstrike for my first ninth level spell, even before Time Stop. (Just turned 36th level Insane traps are quite nasty .) |

I know this is going to sound bad, but I have forgotten that I even HAVE spellstrike. I haven't fought any of the liches in Athlatka and I am currently in the Underdark. I have been using stuff like Khelben's Warding Whip, Timestop, Comet Comet Comet, Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting (in Chain Contingency)(Thanks Dundee for the idea!!) and have been destroying (practically) everything in my path.

LOL.
I'm starting to use a lot of different combos now. I like the trigger with three Melf's Acid Arrows. It does approximately 120-140 hit points worth of damage. Fire one of those off and just roam around. In a few rounds, come back and loot the body. If my enemy's defenses will take more than just a breach to dispel, then they get hit with Spellstrike. Works like a charm. I think Comet is more effective than Dragon's Breath. It seems to do about the same damage, (even though it's only 10d6 compared to 20d6) and the best part is stunning your opponents. The majority of the time I get a bunch of free licks in while they just lay on the ground. I've almost finished SoA. I'm in Chapter 7. |

Mitro, level 36? I take then that you have the level 40 patch?
Fuzzy Animal, if you have Breach, then take Finger of Death. Use Breach first to remove the enemy Mage's Spell Shield( if any), then hit him/her with Spellstrike. Oh, I forgot to mention one more reason why I preferred RRoR to KWW. With the Robe of Vecna and the Amulet of Power equipped, I can cast RRoR instantaneously, but still require some casting time with KWW. Under the influence of Improved Alacrity( especially during Time Stop), I can cast 3 RRoR faster than KWW. The weird thing about Sorcerers is that when it come to level 10 spells, they have it better than Mages. While Mages have to ponder which level 9-10 spell to stuff in their spell slots, Sorcerers can cast any of them 6 times. I use Dragon's Breath against enemies not resistant to Fire, if they are, then I use Comet instead. Interesting titbit: Dragon's Breath and Comet can kill Demi-Liches in one hit. I found this out in Watcher's Keep. |

quote: Yes, I do have the patch installed. I got tired of seeing 8,000,000 xp stuck on my screen forever. That's nice to know. Seeing as I'm finishing up Chapter 7, I'll finish of Watcher's Keep as soon as ToB kicks in. That kinda takes the fun out of Time Stop, then MMMing him to death. Ho Ho Ho!!!! Kangaxx is toast. I've been using comet on everything, I love this spell!!! No I didn't take Breach. I just killed the demon knights in the Kuo-Toa dungeon. Those planetars are totally wicked vs demons, especially when you cast Project image and summon 6 (or more) of them!!!!!

I liked the idea of a mage being able to use scrolls to get new spells, im very impatient, but now i see where being a sorcerer would have been way better. they dont get as much, but then again i dont use EVERY single spell i have. i limit it down - limit it so much that if i was a sorcerer i would have been able to have the same spells, as well as cast them 6x more often. so im going to start a sorcerer - maybe solo. i have one question about the solo part though, i understand how they might fare throught the game, but what about the ending sequence in ToB? it's very long, and unless using wish to rest, it might be pretty hard. can anyone explain how they plan to overcome that obstacle? Also, should i do watchers keeep before i go and do the main quest part of ToB?

There are two ways to deal with the ending in ToB. Either use Wish or Project Image. It is possible for a Sorcerer to cast Project Image 9 times with equipment and high-level abilities.
You think one Sorcerer is powerful? You can now dish out nearly 10 times the pain with Project Image. The Wish route is the better( or rather, safer) route. To maximise your chances with Wish, cast Project Image and use the illusion to cast Wish instead. This way, you can cast Wish up till 60 times, or 60 chances to get the rest and rememorise all spells options. Remember to drink a Potion of Insight though, if your WIS is not 18+. The Project Image route is more risky, you have to totally rely on your illusion to do the dirty work for you. You have 10 'lifes' to put it one way. There are seven fights, so just be careful and you should be alright. I usually do Watcher's Keep in ToB, because there are only two items that I want from Watcher's Keep, and I need to be in ToB to upgrade them. |
