Depending on the size of the mods, and how many there are, I could possibly offer them up for download as a single zipped file for a short period (until the voting period is over). I have about 36MB free on my website which would allow possibly 4 or 5 zipped mods (my main problem is the amount of files I can upload, which is seriously limited). So if all else fails, people could email me their mods and I can offer them all as one download.
If everyone wants to go ahead with this, then I'll post up some rules and we can have a shot |

Well maybe we should vote on who we all think should be the moderator? I mean I doubt it would be fair or un-biased if teh moderator was making mods him/herself...
Well, I think we should all decide on rules, but this really sounds like a good idea, and maybe we could have a global contest where not only can you make mods, but art, code and so on as well.... |

Here's my two cents.
![]() I'll always try to participate and spread the word about contests, but have no interest in ever running one (I'm not at all opposed to helping set up the parameters and what-not, though.) So, with that in mind, I think that anyone that volunteers is an ideal candidate, so I officially nominate Telwyn to be the first moderator. But, I think that the rules should be discussed here first, though I think that if anyone wants to include a specific rule, and they feel strongly about it, that they can do it when they are moderator. (see my idea below) Telwyn's idea that the winner would set the next contest is good, but maybe we could just rotate through several different kind: contest 1 is a mod contest, contest 2 is an art contest, contest 3 is a music contest, contest 4 is a spell-writing contest, etc. We could maybe have one moderator, or rotating moderators, or maybe a different moderator for each type of contest. I'm confident in everyone who participates in this forum in being able to do a good job at running a contest. ![]() -manikus |

I'm happy enough with rotating moderators, and I think Manikus' suggestion about rotating competitions is a good one, it gives everyone a good shot at entering and winning (people who are not good with art can try a mod, people who can't do music can do art, or whatever, you get the idea.)
The reason I suggested letting the winner choose the rules is because: a) It is a little reward for winning, and b) It adds something of a challenge when people don't know what is going to come up next month, and the more unusual rules can help to get people a little more creative. That being said, I'd be happy with everyone deciding on the rules each month. Perhaps as Manikus said, the winner gets the option of including one rule of his/her choice. |

I really like the winner choosing the next contest, but maybe it would be best if the winner chose the next one of that kind: let's say we have four different types of contests that we rotate through and the winner has just won the mod contest, they would get to choose what happens for the next mod contest. This way, the moderator of the upcoming art contest doesn't suddenly have to worry about moderating a sound effects contest. Just another idea

I've got myself a new web site to put my mods on, and some files of artwork from people no longer active in the DC community.
http://dungeoncraft.beplaced.com/ So, now I am fully ready to go on this contest. Telwyn, I think you should submit to this forum your proposed guidelines for the first contest, we can take a day or three to kibbitz about them, then we can get this thing running. ![]() -manikus |

Ok, if nobody has any objections I'll post some suggestions.
Since this is the first competition, I think it would be best to have simple, openended guidelines to allow for the widest selection of mods. For future mods we can impose stricter rules to make it a little more interesting. 1) Must contain at least 1 combat. 2) Must be a fantasy setting (i.e. not futuristic or TV/movie tie-in etc) 3) Must allow players the choice of creating their own characters 4) Must have at least 1 piece of original artwork (this can be anything from a small pic to an icon or anything else). If anyone wants to change or suggest anything else, feel free. Once everyone is happy, we can get started |

What kind of timeframe? (contest open for three weeks then one week of judging, for example)
![]() Also, I think there should be a readme file that contains info about the author and about the mod, at the very minimum, name and contact info for author and name of mod. eg. Big Dungeon by Bill, contact me through Ironworks list. -manikus |

Timeframe wise, I would say until the end of May, then a week or so for voting.
I agree about the readme file and author etc so we can add those to the rules: 5) Must include readme file with author name, brief description of mod and contact info. Anything else we might need to add? [ 05-02-2005, 03:23 PM: Message edited by: Telwyn ] |

Rule number 5 looks good.
![]() The only other thing would be a notice more than a rule, and that would be; if they are sending their mods someplace, where and how; if they are not sending their mods someplace, how and who to they should announce their uploads at their own site. Hopefully we can get these last little bits worked out today or tomorrow at the latest so the people will have 4 weeks to enter. -manikus |
