yeah, there's stuff hidden all over. I'm dying to play another round, but my computer with BG1 and BG2 on it doesn't have a monitor anymore . Gotta get a new one soon.

the easter egg is pointless. The prize you can get with it is pretty much useless. [/QUOTE]Yes, but it's *there*, and therefore must be acquired.

No, it's still there, and therefore it, and all scripts pertaining to it, must be dragged out into the street, hanged, shot, dismembered and burned.

Mmm - Six, not to stir, but I read some of your posts on this in other threads, and I was thinking...

It's an easter-egg. It's meta-content. It's meant to be enjoyed at a meta-level by the player-mind not by the character-immersed roleplay-mind. So... if you compare it to roleplay-level content, you're making a category-mistake.

Some folks think it's neat. Thus, surely it is neat - by definition!

Only way I could think it was _bad_ would be if there were subtle clues to it, and it caused a genuine player to waste a whole host of effort on ending up with a piece of rubbish item. But - no clues! Hence, no worries.

Okay.

You need the Ancient Armor (Found in the Firewine Dungeon) and the Idol of Kozah (Which you have.)

Now you need to head over to Ulcaster...and talk to the ghost of Ulcaster. He will automatically exchange these two items for a sword: The Vampire's Revenge.

(Hint: You're getting screwed in this trade. You need the armor for the quest in Firewine, and the Vampire's Revenge is not a great weapon by any means.)

Sorry, but I have to disagree.
1. Defeat a powerful enemy to collect Item A. Do not give Item A to the person who was originally looking for it, or even leave Item A to be buried, as is that person's new intention. Do not even take Item A and sell it.
2. Defeat another (less) powerful enemy to collect Item B. Do not give Item B to the people who asked you to find it--and who will be left unsatisfied for eternity if you do not.
3. Go to Person C, who has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Items A or B, or the places where you found them.
4. Despite the fact that there isn't even the merest inkling of a hint or connection, give Items A and B to Person C, who doesn't even say anything when you do it.
5. Recieve Item D, which has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Items A or B, the places where you found them, or Person C or the place where you found him.
6. Take a moment to ponder the full glory of Item D, a tool so worthless that the only proposed "use" for it is the most inefficient means of healing in the entire BG saga.

How can anyone think that is "neat?" If this so-called 'Easter Egg' had been found by somebody actually playing the game, I might feel differently, but it wasn't--it couldn't have been--it was found by somebody in the pre-Gatekeeper days cracking open the files, seeing The Vampire's Revenge in there, saying, "Hey, weird. It obviously sucks, but I wonder where you get it?" and running through the scripts until they found one that mentioned the item.

People don't mention this item on the forums because they think it's "neat." They mention it because there is a strong human desire to share apocryphal data and thus seem well-informed and worthy of respect, even if the information dispensed is utterly useless, or even, as in this case, something that I feel the world would be better off not knowing.

Meh. You obviously feel strongly about this, so it's probably not helpful to draw anything out, but... I dunno. I kinda like that it's in the game. I think it's something about the sense that... you think you know everything about BG, and then you find out about Daer'Ragh (or however he's spelt), and this, and maybe there's a few more bits I never ran into! There's no arguing that the implementation's very bad, and could be done a lot better - all the points you listed are definitely valid! But... mm. "More things in heaven and earth" type feeling. I like knowing that I might not have discovered everything in the game quite yet...

Maybe it's the same enjoyment some people get from finding bizarre and fun bugs. Like, hey, I never knew until a couple of days ago that you could
