There was an explanation - or at least an explanation IMPLIED - in the books... Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy. His take on this whole ghost-body business was that a Jedi could 'attach' his spirit to another Jedi if he could mentally prepare himself for it on the moment of death. Hence, Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin all manage to appear to Luke because they died more or less at peace, whereas Qui-Gon and the Jedi in Ep2 are too busy concentrating on Jedi combat techniques.

This whole thing isn't permanent, however - the spirits attached to Luke faded away and became one with the Force in time. As Yoda says, after Luke expresses dismay at the death of his master - 'Strong am I in the Force; but not that strong.' Seems fairly watertight...

I think Yoda was talking about living forever, right before he said what he did, Luke said you can't die. So Yoda was referring to not being strong enough in the force to live forever.

MidiChlorians, were not really important in 4, 5, 0r 6 therefore not mentioned.

What I want to know Is where is the grave marker for Shmi, in EP 4??

I hate to tell you this but that stupid medichlorians thing isn't important in any of the other movies either.

You can almost HEAR Lucas' voice, hidden amongst the Ep2 soundtrack like a subliminal message: 'Forget about Midichlorians! Forget I ever made them up! They were a silly idea! I'm sorry!'

Huzzah, I say! The Force makes so much more SENSE when we haven't a clue what it is.

Yea, we can only hope that Midichlorians were just a 'brain fart' by Lucas.

Midichlorians just provided a way to identify Anakin as being the "one who will bring balance to the force". What else was there to go on? "Hey this kid has to be the one! He won a pod race!"

A couple inconsistencies I've noticed since taking another look at episodes 4 and 5:
In episode 4, Obi-Wan doesn't act like he recognizes R2 or C3PO. Even says something like not ever remebering ever owning a droid... what about R4?

In episode 5, Obi-Wan's spirit says something about Yoda having been his Master... what about QuiGon?

Yoda was the elder jedi on the counsel having lived for around 850(IIRC) years at the point, and if you saw the younglings part of episode two then yes yoda was kenobi's master, as he was master to all the jedi who were either taught in his classes or who were lower ranking on the jedi counsel.

Hmmm... I guess Yoda was confused when he said something about "there are always TWO a master and an apprentice" in episode one when referring to not knowing who Darth Maul's master might be.

Hey, someone tell Yoda he's wrong an apprentice can have multiple masters so he needs to shut his ugly green pie-hole.

Well, for a start, Obi-Wan still hasn't even *met* C-3PO. R4 droids are built into those Jedi Starfighters; it wasn't Obi-Wan's personal droid, but part of the ship, which he also didn't own.

As for Qui-Gon, oh yes, that's a LOT of help for Luke, isn't it?

Obi-Wan: "You must go to the Naboo system... there you will visit the tomb of Qui-Gon! The Jedi Master who instructed me."

Luke: "And do... what? Will he teach me about the Force?"

Obi-Wan: "Um... no, he's dead. Good point. Well, try Dagobah. There you will meet with Yoda! Another Jedi Master who..."

Ah, well, the Sith work a different way to the Jedi. Trust me on this - there are only EVER two Sith - except when there's only one, and then he's probably looking to train a second.
