I hurts me how many people shun one of the best characters in the game....
Xzar!! C'mon, this guy is freaking hilarious!! I think Necromancers are tied for the best specialist mage there is (along with Conjurers), and this guy has a great personality. He's funny in that Hannibal Lector sort of sick way... oh well, I know most people won't agree with me, but there it is.

looking at BG 2, I'm now playing a druid, and to goalong with the story, there's Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc and Dynaheir. It does seem to make sense, somehow.

SPOILER(?) Re Xzar: he, like Jaheira or Edwin, trigger some special actions in the story.

Personally I use:-

Me (Mage)
Dynaheir
Imoen
Branwen
Jaheira
Khalid

Not only are these characters a good mix but none of them have annoying hidden agendas they have to attend to so they won't wander off or attack you!
Sorry for my bitterness but i had a bad experience with Minsc!

OK, Me(cleric-get a good roll and be tough with a Hammer)
Ajantis(main weapon -bow)
Imoen(bow)
Minsc(main weapon -bow)
Dynaheir(sling+longtooth)
Kivan(main weapon-bow).
I like to use Bows in my party-theyre all dead before they reach you.

Dark side of the Sword coastto whet your appetites!)

Me (paladin)-main weapon-bow)
Ajantis(Holy bow of Sukien)
Imoen(bow) - leave Bardo,he's a pain (and slow).
Dynaheir(sacrifice Minsc)
Jet'laya (cleric)-cool anti-undead gear.
Conchobhair(paladin)-BIG sword.
Theres lots of undead in DSotSC so my party reflects that.
GO ON ....TRY IT!

I agree Penguin Boy, Xzar is indeed hilarious, he has some of the best dialogue in the game!

Getting a late start on these BG1 threads

My favorite party had to be
Me (fighter/thief)
Imoen
Xar(sp)
Minsc
Jaheira
Edwin
However, I switched NPC's so often that I really never had a true "favorite" party. Really only the party that would get the job done at the moment!

When I first played BG1 I had no idea that I could just dump Imoen...I felt sooo guilty when I finally decided to ditch Khalid (he died all the time but I never let him leave out of compassion

)
This is why I often wound up with:
Me (cleric or ranger)
Immy
Minsc
Dynaheir
Jaheira
Khalid

However, I'm thinking of going back to the good old BG1 days again and explore other options....like an evil party whoohooo!
