Hehe HP lovecraft is a fav of mine! i have both the Chutulu cycle and other frre hooror novels, and now Iīm reading the Dream cycle, his first works.

i have also read an biography on that man and he is way weird dude! HE, but I like his wotk even though sometimes he is a horrible (giggle!) writer!

Not as bad as me but.. hehe, his early novels are sometimes missing alot..

And he has alot of input from old Sumerian and also from alot of occultists from his time. There is also a book collecting some of his correspondance with other writers and occultists about his writing and their writing.

Hmmm good to see so many Lovecraft fans here!

Djinn... I live near the sea as well, and I have the same eerie feeling from the short story Dagon, have you read it? Same with Mountains of Madness...
My boyfriend recently has taken to reading me Lovecraft before we go to sleep, and I can tell you it's NOT good for a calm night of sleep LOL!! The last story he read me was the one about Herbert West-Reanimator..scary stuff!
I really like the incorporation of Sumerian mythological characters in his stories... Iakh Sakkah! Cthulhu Azag-Thoth!

Keryvian, I have had no problems at all in obtaining my copy of the Gormenghast trilogy, there available in different editions in the Netherlands...
Jsut checked Amazon.co.uk, they have several ed.s there as well....

Yes!
Dagon rocks!
Re-Animator. There is an amazing horror movie called Re-Animator!
Don't know about finding it in Europe, but you should try. This movie was
so awesome...so sccaarrryyy. There is also a sequel to it called
Bride of Re-Animator. It's good too. Zombies...ah...so creepy!
Have seen quite a few Lovecraft movies...but most of them have been
low budget shazam. Except for Re-Animator!!! it is the best! Another
awesome movie based maybe loosely on Lovecraft's stuff is the Evil Dead series
Evil Dead 2 is the best!!!

I wouldn't think that Lovecraft would be the best bedtime reading.

As for Gormenghast, maybe it was just harder to find in the U.S., it was never terribly popular here. I had to pre-order the omnibus version that I currently have - it was the only one I could find. I couldn't find any of the original editions at all, even through my normal out-of-print book sources. It also might be easier to find now, since the BBC (I think it was the BBC ) did a production of Gormenghast.

hehe in the Gothenburg harbour dwelved the great horror, hehe Call of Chutulu, hehe.. Hmm, maybe run to the docks this night eh? Anyone wanna come??

A tip, buy Necronomicon, great as a dictionary and for more info about various figures that appear in Lovecraft books.. It is not as horrible as they say, mostly garbage rituals of how to get a loved one and all that..

Actually, here in England I think we can still buy them separately (at least I did a short about six years ago and I think I've still seen them in second hand bookshops). The third book of the Gormenghast trilogy isn't as good as the other two, if you've read it, you'd understand why it hasn't been dramatised yet (I'm including the 80's radio version with Sting as Steerpike and the same actress as the Duchess).

Well due o my well occult fascination I have tried most things I have gotten in contact too, only the minor once, not so freaked I sacrifice anything, blood magic is pretty old and well works really lousy, and if believing any of the old books alot of bad things happens with bloodmagic, (For example the poclie might wonder what the hell you are doig in the middle of night and such, say hello bared doors and nice medication! LOL) Nah kidding.. Well some magic that are said is more or less chanting and works with a suggestive influence but sofar, most things our little group of studying person have found that most things are bs.. So kids donīt try it at home, and not at bars.. You might be arrested LOL!

Well Necronomicon is just a nice fairytale to and not written by El hazared either, motr likely itīs the product of Lovecraft and some of his friends..

Iīll try to see if I can find the material for this study, both professional and our groups hehe, if you like.. Donīt think I will find it though.. Too many papers lying about..

OKI, am I babbling this away again??? Hmm, better go to that concentratin school for almost burned out wolves that babbles too much!

hehe! Nice link, though they seemed not to add much too a highly debated thing. What is the Necronomicon?

The eldest perception on a necrinomicon is that it contains stories of the true dead and should be written on human flesh, hence itīs powers over the human life and dead.

The Necronomicon out to buy today is about charms, some Babylonian and Sumerian tist about gods n the stars and comes from the sumerian traditions. Also what speaks for this is that well sumerian settlements where digges out in the early 18th century (1900 something) during the time when most occult gatherings started and the egyptian faith was considered a high society thing, most exclusive clubs in thoose times where more or less the place for many occult and different religion talkes..

Also the most astounding of horror authors were starting to tap into these myths and beliefs to make very cool and horrifiing tales. Other went to the extreme..

Well, whether true or not about the Necronomicon the best bet is that it was written by not only Lovecraft but alot of other occult authors and believers. The evidence is vague to tel the least..

But that makes it more interesting eh??
