IMHO, Robin Hobb is the best author since Tolkien. Well, always excepting Tad Williams, of course. Her Farseer Trilogy is just amazing, and I am currently reading the the Liveship series (in between re-reading LOTR and rehearsing 'Abigail's Party')

So I'm not the only one who likes her work.
Thanks for the Robin Hobb site link, Moiraine I know I'll spend a lot of time there.

Hi All,

I read the Farseer trilogy and enjoyed it, but I have so far stayed away from the Liveship series. It appeared to be a bit boring for my style from the reviews and summaries that I read about the series. Can someone offer me a brief summarization of the underlying thread/plot? That may help me to decide whether to proceed with a purchase or not. Thanks in advance!

Oh Throntar ... you have read the Farseer trilogy and fear to find the Liveship trilogy boring ?

I have read all 6 books - I prefer the Liveship trilogy because I found the Farseer to be great but very gloomy. The invaluable worth of the Liveship trilogy resides in the way characters evolve - I mean, the situation at the beginning is pretty clear, you make up your mind about who are the 'good guys' and who are the 'bad guys', and then things get not so evident anymore, as in life, people evolve and change. This is one thing I never saw in any other writer's books, even the best like Jordan or Feist.

I srongly recommend you buy and read the liveship books - not at ALL boring, and you won't be disappointed one bit.

Um, no, they are NOT boring! However, for me, they take a bit longer to read - they are less engrossing than the Farsee trilogy. MY opinion. However, my daughter thinks they are much better than the Farseer books.. why not just borrow the first from the library and see what you think before paying out good money?

Oh joy,a "let's praise Robin Hobb" thread.About time too.I've just started reading the Farseer trilogy this week after finnishing the Liveship trilogy (which I found to be a fantastic read),I'm just scared I'll finnish them too quickly and have to wait eons for her next offering.

Great covers by the way,the spines look groovey on my bookshelf.

I saw a new book of a pair by her in the shop yesterday. It is written under another name, but the book has a new wrap on the cover proclaiming that it is the alter ego of Robbin. Damn, I should have got some more details to share.
