I read books 1 - 3 years ago and totally forgot about them. 4 and 5 hadn't been released at the time. Anyway have ordered them now and should be reading them soon.

The last book of the quintet is the best. I started being afraid of vampires again through this book!

I'd read them, they're great books. The series gets better as you go along, as the adventures get bigger, Cadderley gets better and the dwarves get funnier. Pikels choice of class is worth the reading alone. Hey it is RA Salvatore. I imagine Cadderly will come up in later books so it's worth finding out about him. He seems a really powerful guy by the time he gets to Spine of the world too. You meet cadderly in Bg1 so he must be pretty special. Just don't expect another Dark Elf series. That is a one of a kind.

Hate to be the voice of doom here but i found that the books sucked. The characters were like drizzt, way overpowered and waay to good. The internal conflict within Cadderly was a joke, and you know how it ends up. Salvatore is about as subtle as a bull. Another author, and the series would have flourished because the idea although overused with drizzt and his drow nature conflicting with his goodness is a good one.

1.5 stars out of 5. One of his worst works.

To balance Sir Deg's views, Iliked the story and foud it refreshing to have stories about someone other than a mage, a fighter or a thief. The Cleric and Monk combo was pretty new I liked it well enough that I bought all 5 paperbacks but then turned around and got the hard cover compilation. Of course I am somewhat of a book oriented pack rat.

I thought the Servant of the Shard was readable and okay - but I liked the parts with Cadderly and Co. the least. It convinced me NOT to read the Cleric Quintet.

Of course, I'm a well-known critic of Salvatore, who can only do one thing very well: write a sword fight.

I think the only reason I continue to read them is I buzz through them at lightning speed and I have an emotional attachment to them because I began reading them when I was in High School. I think for the mature reader, there is little of worth in them.

That said, I am still offering my copy of Sea of Swords to the first taker. I quit reading it because it was so utterly crappy. It's a bit dirty and smells funny because I peed on it to keep it from stinking so much. You pay S&H. Any takers?

Edit: You know, I think I just realized something...I read things that some of you deem...schlock because it may be just that....when I read for recreation I read stuff that won't makeme think I spend all week reading serious stuff

I think there's nothing wrong with recreational reading, MagiK. Like I said, I still read them too. There is little worth for the mature viewer in ACCESS HOLLYWOOD, but that doesn't stop me from watching.

Haven't read them yet, but I bought the special edition (all in one volume) for my fiance for Christmas and he liked them well enough. He chuckled a fair bit through the middle volumes and said he like the dwarves, so I'm going to go ahead and read them one of these days!
