Ziroc- I had a dos based computer game of Xanth! Gave it to a friend, as I could only go so far in the Windows dos...not true dos...grrrr, and it didn't run properly. He is an engineer for IBM, runs all sorts of things, but now Win...hahaha...so he has had great fun with it. Was almost like those text-based games in the early days but had a few nice graphics added. Was fun, and punny!

Think I bought it about 2 yrs back, wonder if you could find it in some 'cheap stuf' bin someplace!

The "Earthsea" series by Ursula K. Le Guin comprises 3 books, "The Wizard of Earthsea", "The Tombs of Atuan" and "The Farthest Shore". It is the story of an apprentice magician who develops through the series to become an archmage and faces his greatest challenge - a shadow of himself which he created by mistake as an apprentice.
Joel Rosenberg's "Guardians of the Flame" series is a story of a group of D&D-type roleplayers who suddenly find themselves in the personas of their characters in their gaming world. I've only read the first book, "The Sleeping Dragon", and that was quite a few years ago, but I can recommend it as a good read.
"Jhereg", by Steven Brust, is the story of a assasin, Vlad Taltos, and his adventures. The title of the book is the name of his flying, reptilian familiar, suspiciously like a pseudodragon from the AD&D game. Again, I read this a long time ago, and although it was good, light reading, I understand the later books in the series are more developed.

BTW - have you read the "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant: The Unbeliever" by Stephen Donaldson? If you haven't, I seriously recommend it and the 2nd trilogy. Get your hands on them if you can.

There's a fourth Earthsea book (making it a quartet) but I didn't like it very much, can't think of the title at the moment.

I read the Xanth series up to Demons don't Dream. I think Piers Anthony is hilarious. I've been partial to more serious stuff lately, but if anyone is in the mood to not be that serious this series rocks. I think it would be awesome to have a magical ability that no one else has.

Piers Anthony and Isaac Asimov are two of my favorite authors. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the Adept and Robot/Foundation novels. One of the best written series was Anthony's "Incarnations of Immortality." I also enjoy Fred Saberhagen and there was a series of loosely connected short stories in novel form called "Sanctuary." - Xavier

No problem, Memsy! I do it all the time! But as it happens, I've probably read more L'Engle than LeGuin! LOL

So was it A Wrinkle in Time for sure that you liked? I have recently acquired the "Murry Family" collection of her works that starts with that book, because I remembered how much I loved them and how many times I read and re-read A Wrinkle in Time and A Wind in the Door. And it was your post that made me go looking to own the books,as I'd borrowed them from the library so many years back...sigh... Thanks! You don't have a commission thing going with Amazon, do you? I've bought 8 books from them recently, all on your recommendation!

Xanth??? LOVE IT!!! It's nice to have a lighthearted romp through fantasy. I have every one of the Xanth books except the latest that is only in hardcover. I've all of his Incarnations of Immortality series, his Blue Adept series, and Mode series. I have all of Joel Rosenberg's Guardian of the Flame series, and Hidden Ways series. Also, for another fun romp through fantasy, I have Robert Asprin's Myth series (funny, but not as punny). And Asprin's Phule and Time Scout series as well. Did I mention I'm a bookaholic??? I'm just starting to read some Anne McCaffrey to see if I like her.

Myth series was amusing! And you will LOVE McCaffrey! One of the first fantasy writers I ever picked up.
