Kind of like Fallout, that can be done in a couple hours if you are really good. However I find playing this way kind of takes the fun out of the game.
I think a read somewhere that Fallout 2 could be completed in 45 minutes if you hurried up, but these games have so much more that isnt neccessary to do but good for the roleplaying

Actually the record for FO2 is 32 minutes (virtually talked his way to victory), but as the disclaimer said, this is not the way the game is meant to be played.

I like BG1, and I do think it has a lot of gameplay to offer, provided you bother to explore each map in detail.

Maybe you're forgetting to talk to npc's and LISTEN to what they have to say. I can remember wandering around Nashkel (THE TINIEST LITTLE ONE HORSE TOWN OF NASHKEL) for two hours...though admitedly, I buy equipment kind of liberally....

that and all those graves...he he he...and beating Daer Ragh...(continues to mumble to himself about Nashkel)

Daer Ragh! He walked up to me in Nashkel after I got there and said something like:
"You! NEVER do that to me again! I am warning you"
Then left. I know he has some sort of importance, but how do you engage in a quest/battle with him?

Do it again. Twice. But make sure you save first. It's not a quest, just an easter egg, and do not expect to win that fight without razing nashkel to the ground.

A very easy way to defeat him is cast silence before he does his summoning... he falls then quickly giving you very little XP and an amount of gold...

How do you get him to come? All I had done was walk down the street!! I hadnt talked to anyone there but that guard who walks up to you. I want to fight him badly!

Examine the graves. Most of them are fun to read anyway. Read them all twice. That should do the trick.

"Here lies ______ the miner. He stuck his head up the shaft to see if the lift was coming.
It was."

That's not the one you're looking for, just to clarify. You're looking for one that's in a cryptic sort of verse.

Edited for clarity.
