I've been playing BGI for about 10 hours now, and is it just me, or is the game short? I've uncovered a great deal of the map, and am trying to fulfill as many quests and subquests as possible, but this game seems a lot shorter that BGII. I do have TotSC and am not sure when that aspect of the game kicks in, but each little map on the big map doesn't seem to have nearly as much as those in BGII. Am I wrong?

IMO you are imagining things. :D Really. The game is big but when you play it 10hrs straight no wonder it seems short.

No, 10 hours straight is still nothing. I've had days in the summer where I forget to eat lunch/dinner (hey, BG1 doesn't give you the reminder like BG2 does :D ) and keep playing till late night and not be close to beating the game. Currently, my solo character has just completed nearly every quest he can without going to the Bandit Camp yet. The only area I skipped was the area that Drizzt is in. I'm not going there till I'm at a higher level so that I can kill him. He's currently on hold for a few days, but I'll take him to the Bandit Camp ASAP ;)

Aye, I think you're imagining things.

I'm currently on my third time through BG1, second with ToTSC installed and it definitely feels alot more extended in nature than my only one time through BG2, though admittedly that was without the Powergameyness of the ToB.

I also remember not enjoying Bg2 as much as the original due to its imposition of particular players upon the player from the start. It also felt more linear without as many areas to explore so openly from the beginning.
Also, having killed Minsc my first time around in Bg1 and to see him rise again in the second and almost feel compelled to need him in the party early on didn't help. :D
But then again, maybe my memories of Bg2 are tainted and that I'm really imagining things. :D
Its all a matter of opinion really. I preferred the genuine struggle from the early meek levels of 1-10 in the original, rather than the ego-maniacal heights that Bg2 reached. Though I shall be returning to that game in the future to at least experience ToB.

But to be honest, a game of 6 cds cannot by any form of logic be considered short. ;) Well...maybe if 50 years into the future and RPGs become so virtual in terms of their reality, to the point that you can almost live in them for years, then maybe.... :D

well one time I played for like 10 hours straight and them discovered after it I hadnt actually done any of the main plot ( I like to do every single quest)

It depends I would say you can complete the game in 10 hours or less if you did not do any side quest, or explored any maps. Take Jaheria, Kahlid, Kiven, Imoen and one other head straight for the mines, and do only the quest needed to move on in the game it could be short. Kind of like Fallout, that can be done in a couple hours if you are really good. However I find playing this way kind of takes the fun out of the game.

Oh, I don't mean I've finished the game in 10 hours, but it looks as though I've uncovered the majority of the map in that time, and it doesn't seem as though the individual maps are as "in depth" as those in BGII. The funny thing is, after I added this post, I've found the game has picked up a fair bit.

That means that the game is not short, per se, but the rate at which you find the locations are.

Don't rush through BG. The game's to damn good for that!

You are imagining - There are so much to do in the game.

And when you are done the first time, you will start all over with another PC and other NPC's trying to do some of the side quests you missed. And after that you might try to install a MOD such as DSotSC and start all over again.

There are so much to do - and so little time :(

Durlag's Tower (that tiny thing on the map in the upper right) will take a couple hours at least.
