I like sorcers the most. For Magic I have my Sorcerer +Sorcerer/Tief and Cleric.
Summoning higher Shadow really rocks. My lvl 18sorcerer creates storm giants, red azubiahis and higher werewulfs. Without them I would be lost in HOF mode. The Beetle summoning of the Cleric also rocks at high lvl. The horned Beetle is so big you can block a hole brige with it same goes with storm giant. And on HOF the summons are even more powerfull |

Personally I get somewhat frustrated with sorcerors. I always pick them when intially making a party, but do to their inflexablility they are a hinderance. I usually start collecting scrolls, to teach my new non-specialist mage, and give the sorceror the boot.

just wizard is excellent for me, sometime you need a certain kind of magic to save the day. a wizard can do that. want another spell? just take the spell off and put another one and just rest. easy as that.

Sorcerors rule. Their only downside is that if you dont pick youre spells carefuly they can quickly become unplayable, but its not that hard to come up with a workable list if you pay attention. And the flexibility they have when casting their spells is impressive.

He didn't ask a debate between mages and sorcerers, he asked which specialist wizard you thought was the best.

Well, there is a unique available only to Transmuters in the Underdark.
Since my party consists of R/T, F, P/C of Ilmater, T/Conjurer, Evoker, D/S; I don't worry about spell school availability. Getting enough spells to split between two wizards on the other hand ....
